Fourteen hurt as refinery staff truck overturns in Chonburi

Fourteen employees of a Laem Chabang oil refinery were injured, one seriously, when their six-wheel staff transport truck overturned on Highway 36 in Chonburi on 22 September 2026.

The crash happened at about 6.40am on the Pattaya-bound side of the Pattaya-Rayong road, at kilometre marker 3+600 in Ban Noen Kamnan, Nong Pla Lai, Bang Lamung district.

Police Lieutenant Nattathan Chantawong, a deputy investigating inspector, responded with rescuers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation in Pattaya and more than 10 ambulances from various hospitals.

Truck landed upside down beside road

At the scene, officers found a white Isuzu six-wheel employee transport truck, registered in Maha Sarakham, severely damaged and lying upside down beside the road.

Rescue workers and medical teams treated more than 10 injured people who had been thrown in different directions and were calling out in pain. They were taken to nearby hospitals.

Authorities confirmed that 14 people were injured: 12 men and two women. All were employees of an oil refinery in the Laem Chabang area. One person was classified as seriously injured.

The 56-year-old driver, Chaiya Mayotha, suffered minor injuries. He told police he had collected refinery employees in Rayong and was taking them to the refinery in Laem Chabang.

He said the truck had been travelling at about 70km/h when he lost control, swerved from side to side and overturned off the road. He told police that 15 workers had been travelling in the vehicle and suggested rain-slick roads may have caused the crash.

CCTV shows sudden braking in rain

One employee said the vehicle had initially been travelling normally before it began swerving. The rear of the truck swung violently from side to side before it left the road and rolled over several times.

The employee said they remained shocked by the crash and hoped all colleagues would be safe.

CCTV footage from about 100 metres from the crash site showed light rain falling. At 6.31am, the truck was seen passing the camera before braking suddenly and appearing to lose stability shortly before the rollover.

Police inspected the scene and are continuing to investigate the precise cause.
