When does it get renamed TrumpLand?

Under the old agreement the US could station as many troops as they wanted in Greenland.

Under the new agreement, to be signed at the United Nations General Assembly (I do hope that they have fixed the escalators) the US can station as many troops as they like in Greenland. They are so eager to do so that they (US) have of their own volition gone from 25+ bases to 1, at which they maintain a garrison of 100! That number may increase if they can source some boots which don't fall apart in the cold. Maybe the Nordic countries can help there?

Under the old agreement the US did not have the right to access and exploit Greenland's mineral wealth. Only Denmark/Greenland had that. Under the new agreement the US does not have the right to access and exploit Greenland's mineral wealth. Only Denmark/Greenland has that.

Clearly an absolute game changer - a notable triumph for the GOAT.

Perhaps he will ascend the escalator at the UN building (if it is working) declaiming that this is "his last territorial claim in the Western Hemisphere" !

Same old story. Trump claims he has made a better deal and it's just the same or worse than the existing one., NAFTA became CUSMA (best deal ever) which were essentially identical. CUSMA was no good so he tore that up and made a wonderful deal with Canada (555). The Obama deal with Iran was no good (Obama signed it) so he tore it up and made a new wonderful one(555). The same thing with the Greenland deal.

Everything Trump touches dies.

The Danes will get additional free security, all while maintaining sovereignty over Greenland and controlling all of its resources. Really nothing much changed, as the US already had troops stationed there. Also, if Russia really ever did try to bully into that part of the Arctic, NATO Article 5 already committed the US to come to Denmark-Greenland's defense.

Well many of us realize that's just who the man is, he's one of the world's worst negotiators, he likely couldn't negotiate his way out of a paper bag if he or a family members life depended upon it, and everything he touches turns to crap.

The good news is that Disaster Don may become doubly impotent within just six short weeks. If the Dems take the House and the Senate his only choice will be resignation, suicide, or the prospect of facing impeachment, or netter yet prison.

There's a dedicated thread about it linked below, but let me give you the gist of it:

So, after eighteen months of lying on the supermarket floor screaming at Denmark, Donald Trump has been handed the 1951 defense agreement in a new and shiny wrapper. Greenland remains Danish territory with a Greenlandic parliament running the day to day stuff, exactly as before.

The US will be allowed to maintain bases there, exactly as before.

The only "new" thing to come out of this is that according to the new agreement no NATO enemy will be allowed to establish a base on Greenland, which they never would have been allowed to do anyway, so (you guessed it) exactly as before.

What has changed drastically is America' standing in the world, and especially in Europe, after trump's threats to take Greenland by force. That will never be forgotten or forgiven.

There was an agreement in 1951 which has been replaced with this similar and lesser agreement which is a totally pointless new agreement as all it does is that it lets the TRUMPateer pretend it has gained something that he has actually lost! (as usual)
