Tourists Evacuated After Chiang Mai Hotel Fire

Tourists and other hotel guests were forced to evacuate in the early hours of Tuesday after a fire broke out on the fourth floor of a hotel in Chiang Mai, leaving one woman injured and prompting a large emergency response.

The fire was reported at 4.15 a.m. on July 14 at a hotel on Sripingmuang Road in Haiya subdistrict, Mueang district, Chiang Mai. The rescue command centre dispatched fire engines along with volunteers from the Phetkasem Chiang Mai Foundation to tackle the blaze and assist people trapped inside the building.

When emergency crews arrived, thick smoke was billowing from the fourth floor of the hotel. Rescuers went room to room helping to evacuate guests, including tourists, who had been asleep when the fire started, causing scenes of panic as they were led to safety.

Firefighters concentrated their efforts on preventing the flames from spreading to neighbouring rooms by using water hose-lines in the effected room. The fire was brought under control after approximately 40 minutes, preventing more extensive damage to the hotel.

Initial investigations found that the fire originated in a room occupied by a 47-year-old woman. She suffered a burnt index finger, cuts to her foot caused by broken glass and smoke inhalation during the incident.

The injured woman received first aid at the scene before being transported to hospital for further treatment. No other injuries or fatalities were reported.

Following the fire, Chiang Mai City police examined the scene and secured the area around the damaged room. The cordon remained in place until forensic investigators completed their examination.

Authorities have not yet determined what caused the fire. Forensic officers are to continue to investigate the scene, establish the source of the blaze and assess the extent of the damage before releasing their findings.

Amarin reported that the incident highlights the importance of rapid emergency response at hotels accommodating both domestic and international visitors. Officials have not announced whether the hotel will remain open while investigations continue.
