Two men die in mysterious Ayutthaya motorbike accident

By The Nation

AYUTTHAYA: -- The bodies of two men were found on a guardrail of a pedestrian bridge in Ayutthaya’s Bang Pa-in district early Tuesday morning.

Police don’t know if the motorbike the men were riding was hit by another vehicle or if it were a single-vehicle accident.

It appears that the impact of the accident hurled the men against guardrail of the bridge in front of Karunvej Hospital on Asia Road.

A passer-by, Sarayut Kijnimit, told police he road his motorcycle past the bridge at about 2.30am and he saw the motorcycle lying on the road under the bridge.

He said he stopped and saw the bodies.

Satrayut said he dared not take a closer look and asked security guards at the hospital to check and they determined that the men were dead.

An ID card identified one of the victims as Weerasak Phayachai, 19, of Bang Pa-in. The other man was unidentified.

Lieutenant Athikom Thongdaeng, deputy inspector of Bang Pa-in Police Station, said police do not know yet what caused the accident.

Who needs CSI when we have physics? There has to be a vertical force applied to lift 2 bodies some 4 or 5 (??) metres into the air. If their motorcycle struck a relatively slow vehicle at high speed some metres before the bridge, their forward energy could pivot on the front axle to supply the needed vertical component.

Who needs Isaac Newton and physics when we have the Pink Panther. Two vital clues.

1. Age 19

2. 2.30 am

Take your pick  They were pissed  They were speeding They had no helmets on  They were texting They were on wrong side of the road   They had no lights on so they were hit by another car  They forgot to wear there amphulets  They lifted the bike onto one wheel when speeding ( Big Thai fun game) Take your pick  Its quiet normal this happens everyday in Thailand

Seems plausible to me. The condition / damage to the motorcycle, especially the front wheel, may substantiate this hypothesis (or  not).

I'm disappointed because I can't find any pertinent images of the accident on the internet and also failed to get a street view of the over-walk using Google Maps.

Does anyone have images or a GPS position?

A tragic reminder to all the 2 or 3 wheelers...no drinks, no drugs, always helmets, extra caution when driving in Thailand and avoid roads at nights!

Sad for the families...

You need drugs and alcohol. just to get the courage to drive in Thailand.

Was the "guardrail" the article referring to the road-level guardrail or the over-walk railing? It seems more likely to me that it was the road-level one: Here's a pedestrian over-walk in the Bang Pa-in district or thereabouts showing a protective road-level vehicle guardrail, not the one where the accident allegedly occurred  (Google Maps Street View - 14.2380957  100.6127943)
