My girlfriend wants me to go and live with her in Thailand and i want the same. She owns her own bar and a motorcycle rental business. We plan to marry when i arrive there and then i will help her out with her business'.

What visa do you suggest i should apply for as i want to do this all totally legally?

You can try for a non immigrant O visa if you have a Consulate that will issue for visiting friends. Failing that a tourist visa would be the other option.

Once married you can obtain a non immigrant O visa and if you have 40k per month family income (proven by tax receipts) that visa can be extended on a yearly basis. As for working you would need a work permit (married or not) and expect that may be a little dicey and require serious legal advise.

Thanks for the advise lopburi3, i live in Hull and i believe the consulate there gives out visa's for visiting friends.

A bit worried about the work permit, she does want to open a business for me to run, don't know if that would help.

If thats a bar as in Beer bar in Pattaya or Patong then you wont get a work permit and you would would be well advised not to be seen anywhere but on the customer side of the bar.

Yes it is a beer bar, would it make any difference if my name was on the rental agreement?

No, you can rent it but you cant get a work permit to work in a bar, that's work that Thai people can do. You must employ Thai people to work those jobs. If a bar owner doesn't come to this forum ask any one of them when you get to Thailand.
