Savanakhet Apply Non-O for Ret Extn...

Apologies if I've missed the link to what docs are required for a first application.

Kindly point me there or list precise docs required to apply for a Non-O with a view to extending based on retirement.

You need proof of 800k baht in the bank on the date you apply or proof of 65k baht income or a combination of the 2.

They will want proof you are retired along with the money in the bank. Many people have used a income letter showing any amount of income for that proof. If using the income only they will still want to see some money in a bank account (I assume it is to meet the 20k baht requirement for all visas).

You will need a copy of your passport photo page.

The 800K (as US$) in Thai bank is no problem.
Previously self-employed, now living off savings, no pension; so what would be accepted as "proof" I'm not working?

So no requirement to show a ticket out of Tld, or rental agreement/hotel booking?

Just for completeness;
In Vientiane Thai Consulate I spotted a notice last week saying SETV are free from December 1st to February. That would apply to Savanakhet as well, but I wonder if it covers a Non-O application. Guessing not.

The proof of retirement could be a statement done at your embassy. Others have used that. 

Yes it could be the equivalent of 800k baht in foreign currency account at a Thai bank. It might be wise to get a letter from the bank stating the baht equivalent of the funds you have in the bank. 

No need for tickets and etc.

The free tourist visas ended in February of this year. The non-o visa were not free then.

If using the 800k baht in the bank option proof you are retired is needed. Some document proving you are getting a pension would be accepted. A statement stating you are retired done at your embassy would be accepted.

Would a statement in English and in Thai notarised by a Thai Notary Public suffice?

UK Embassy charges are prohibitive.

I don't think that would be accepted. They normally want to see embassy stamps on things like that.

I assume that those requirements will be the same for Vientiane, but I hesitate because I recall reading VN also asks for a Thai Police Clearance Certificate, which sounds very daunting for non-crims! :)

They don't ask for the proof of retirement but do ask for a letter from the bank. And the police clearance plus a medical certificate.

Have you considered applying at your local immigration office for the visa. Just show your bank book and letter from the bank.

I'm in between two Imm Offices, one is very pleasant, the other decidedly UNpleasant to all-comers.
Last week I enquired at the nice IO, and they informed me that if I have a Non-O they +can+ extend that to retirement, but if I only have a SETV, I must get that converted at the UNpleasant IO.

This information is a change from what the same office told me 3 months ago, but the IO seemed to be certain about it. I suspect it's based on precisely where you reside and I just edge into the boundary of the UNpleasant IO.

Which is why I'm asking here about obtaining a Non-O.
