The Wildlife First Aid Clinic operated by the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plants Conservation has received an average of 300 snakes each month caught from households in Bangkok and peripherals by rescue workers.

Kanchana Nittaya, director of the department’s Office of Wildlife Conservation, said that 460 snakes, mostly pythons, were sent to the clinic during the first half of September for safe keeping before they are to be sent the breeding station in Ratchaburi and, finally, to be returned to the jungle.

She noted that more snakes are out of their hiding places during the rainy season to feed on small animals such as rats near communities – which explained why more of them were caught.

sent the breeding station

They don't have enough already?

Smaller pythons make good rat catchers, but then again, so do my dogs.  Got one this morning (RIP Micky)    We try to escort the snakes back into the jungle if possible.
