PHICHIT: -- Swollen with rain and runoff from the North, the Yom River was still rising on Wednesday, threatening to reach the second storeys of already flooded homes in one Phichit village.

Pheun Nuchmaew, a resident of Ban Koh Sarika (Moo 4) in Tambon Rang Nok, Sam Ngam district, said the floodwater was only a metre from her home’s second floor.

Twenty homes along the river in the village have been inundated for some time and conditions are worsening. The low-laying terrain brings flooding every year.

if this happens every year you would think they would do something about it, low lying areas that flood simply should not be built on without raising the levels of the house to compensate, problem is that would cost more money. In most countries there are laws that stop people building in flood areas, here no one cares

remove all man made structures within the flood zone.
