PMO Deputy Spokesman: Thailand's response to Rohingya issue in Myanmar in line with ASEAN framework

BANGKOK, 21 September 2017 (NNT) – The Deputy Spokesman of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) reiterates that Thailand's response to the Rohingya issue in Myanmar is in line with theASEAN framework.

PMO Deputy Spokesman Lt. Gen. Weerachon Sukhonthapathiphak said that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, Advisor to Myanmar, has issued a statement requesting the international community to participate in solving the Rohingya issue in Myanmar, while Thailand has been working on this issue within the ASEAN framework.

Despite a non-interference rule in internal affairs adopted by ASEAN member states, all countries are concerned about the situation and the issue has attracted a lot of attention, therefore ASEAN member countries have to discuss this issue, he said.

Lt. Gen. Weerachon said he does not know if the discussion has already started, but reiterates that every country has the same goal to solve the Rohingya issue.

So, sending refugees on boats caught in Thai territory waters back to the open sea is in line with all other ASEAN states?

They will discuss the case until they died of hunger and deprivation.
