Kuala Lumpur ED Visa Report

Good news for some: Kuala Lumpur is accepting ED visa applications for students attending private institutions (as far as I know before it was government schools only).

Visa applications are Mon - Fri, 9:30 - 11:30. You will have to wait in line outside the consular section entrance while the guards let people in one by one. Be prepared to spend up to one hour outside there in the sun. My advice is to arrive at least one hour before closure, you'll have to come back another day if you don't make it in time.

If you manage to get in before 11:30, the guard will give you a document checklist according to your visa type, assign you a number and then you'll proceed to the waiting room. I can confirm the document list is 100% correct and they don't ask for tickets, bookings or anything else. Oddly enough, things are moving at a much faster pace inside, the staff is polite and the process is quite straighforward. Note that there are no photocopy, photo or printing facilities so make sure you prepare everything in advance. Visa pick up is next day 14:30 - 16:30 and only takes about 15 minutes total.

On a side note, there's a sign for Tourist Visa applicants stating that a printed copies of hotel booking confirmation and in/out flight tickets are required. As far as I understood, the requirement for work papers, bank statements etc is no longer there. I saw a few SETV applicants and no one was turned around, one was asked to print his booking confirmation and come back.

Was that for first time ed visa application, or 2nd or 3rd year application?

My friends’ school told her that malaysia will only give ed visa for first year students, and then for second year she must go to Laos or manila to apply ed visa.
