Senior police officer close to Thaksin taking early retirement

A police major general who used to serve as a bodyguard for former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra was among 475 officers whose early retirement requests have been approved.

 

The early retirement of Pol Maj-General Atthakrit Tharichat, deputy police inspector-general, was approved on Friday by Police Commissioner-General Pol General Chakthip Chaijinda.

 

In addition to once being among Thaksin’s bodyguards, Atthakrit was director of the Government Lottery Office in 2012 when Yingluck Shinawatra was the prime minister.

 

He left the police service following the May 29, 2014 coup. He was reinstated in the police service by Royal command to the position of deputy police inspector-general on January 28, 2015.

I have my new mercedes and mansion courtesy of my wife who is a great businesswoman but have come to the conclusion it is time to retire on the grounds of bad health. Kob koon krab. 

They may want to see if his DNA was in Yingluck's getaway car.

In my home country, inspectors general are independent, high-level officials within particular government departments or agencies whose mission is to investigate official wrongdoing within their agency.

 

Here, as best as I can tell, inspector general seems to be an unlimited positions assignment where they stick people when they're removed from other more meaningful jobs, and don't want to formally fire them, just stick them away in some dark corner where they have no responsibility and no authority until they finally just retire.
