But lost in all the noise is the fact that the person who comes up with these disturbing fantasies is the one that decides (by himself, as the GOP run Congress has surrendered it's oversight function) in which direction the US is going internationally, and it's causing enormous and lasting damage.

If the world survives this incredibly dangerous period and grown-ups return to the WH, it will take decades to undo what can be undone. Of course, some of the most serious damage is permanent.

Decades at least. The US has proved that it quite simply cannot be trusted.

A few months ago, before Trump slipped even farther into dementia and insanity, Gen Mattis was on TV and was asked how long it would take for the world to trust the US again and for the Trumpian damage be erased.

Mattis guessed two decades or maybe a generation.....if the US is lucky.

The fact that the US electorate is so dumb as to elect the bozo twice---even after the guy tried to overturn the election he lost---makes Gen Mattis' assessment sound optimistic.

By any measure, Trump is now completely insane....yet no one has stepped forward to attempt to invoke the 25th Amendment. The best we can hope for is a Democratic landslide in both the House and Senate two months from now, so as to make Trump the lamest duck there ever was. At that point, if Trump tried something crazy, the Joint Chiefs would step in, throw Hegseth out of the way, and remove Trump. Yes, a coup sounds bad, but the alternative is worse. Trump has dug his own grave with the military, with his idiotic war, his total lack of concern for servicepeople, and calling the deaths and injuries from his Iran debacle "small potatoes". No decent people would complain.

It is going to be one hell of a wild party worldwide in the streets the day that donnie slinks back under his rock and is gone forever either into the depth of demenia or death from cheeseburgers.

I still think and hope that just maybe our former allies maybe will forgive the morons who voted for this con man two times and realize that only about 35% still think he is just wonderful.

But sadly I don't think Donnie and the dunces are done yet. I think there will be a massive blue wave in 2026 and the dems will control potus congress in 2028....but will demented don go quietly into the night or scream rigged as he always does and try and send his thugs as well as military and cops out to arrest all those who dare to oppose the emperor of evil.

Even the most optimistic acknowledge that after Trump/Maga there will be no reset button.

The former allies will remain concerned that it may happen again, either because a majority will actually vote for a similar demagogue, or because they do not trust the frankly gimcrack electoral system, (which is hideously gerrymandered at Congressional (House of Representatives) level, bizarrely gives smaller states the same representation as the larger states in the Senate, and which is so open to manipulation and ignoring the popular vote at Presidential level), to not produce this again.

And of course, they share your concerns that a vote to overturn Trump either in the midterms or at the next General Election will be suppressed.

It will be at least a generation. Maybe the US is " too big to fail" (not so sure) but it is certainly "too big to trust".
