I'm transferring money with my Krung Thai Bank online banking system. They need to send me a code on a mobile phone. I don't have a mobile phone so I have to use my wife's Is there an easier way to transfer money from my laptop at home to other people in Thailand. talisman01 Posted October 4, 2017 Share Posted October 4, 2017 It is very easy to transfer money from your KTB, or any, Thai bank account to someone else within Thailand who also has a bank account. It takes just a couple of minutes from any KTB ATM. I have often done this from my own KTB account, just follow the instructions given on the ATM screen to make a transfer. talisman01 Posted October 4, 2017 Share Posted October 4, 2017 If the recipient in Thailand has a bank account then I have also used Transferwise with no problems at all although it will take about 3 days for your transfer to reach the account of the recipient and their fees are very competitive and quite modest compared to some other companies. I live in an area where there are many refugees and yaa baa smugglers near the Burmese border.It's a high security area.I have to drive for 2 hours to get to an ordinary bank or ATM. I just discovered Transferwise last week on this forum. They are fantastic for international transfers. Do you know how much they charge. I was also asked when I opened an account if I wanted PayPal on it. I have a KTB account and have never had any problems with either method. The OTP is for online purchases with your KTB/visa debit or credit card. Everybody should have their own mobile phone number connected to their thai banking. OTP are not only for online purchasing! Namplik, of course, is right:When you open an account you require a mobile phone number,and the bank will send you a confirmation SMS every time you transfer/deposit/withdraw money, but not every single transaction requires an OTP. TransferWise reduced the charge for Thai baht transfers to .6% plus £1.50 not too long ago so £1000 will cost you £7.50. They take that off the top and you will get £992.50 converted at the actual market rate which you can of course check on various apps. I've used them for ages without problem. No, not every online shop has PayPal.... You link your PayPal to your bank account from your PP account. The bank has nothing to do with your PP... oldcarguy Posted October 4, 2017 Share Posted October 4, 2017 Paypal gives a lousy exchange rate if it goes out of Thai BAHT, If we transfer money out of paypal to a Thai bank account it can take 5 days Few people in Thailand have even heard of Paypal and its not easy to get a Paypal account as its "international" and many debit cards cannot do "international" or Internet unless you get it set up at your bank, Can you transfer thru 7-11 bill pay ? Transferwise is the best that I have found to send money from the UK. I've been using it for over a year now and it has been getting a lot faster. Made a payment to a brand new recipient two days ago and the money arrived the following day. Cost of transfer on £80 was £1.50 and the rate was 44.5. I've found comparable but I haven’t found better. Western Union absolutely rob you on the exchange rate unless things have changed recently. Most banks are using SMS messaging to validate and recipients now. Without a mobile phone it does make life a lot more difficult in that respect. Yes that's what I'll have to do. It wouldn't be so bad if I could use the local ATM anytime the wife was out and I had no mobile phone. Being in a refugee area and not having a cell phone is what's making it difficult. It's no big deal I just thought I would ask some people if there was a better way. I did a post last week about international transfers and I found Transferwise. I just thought there might be the same improvement with Transfers within Thailand.
