  1. Of course not. No prostitution, no corruption either. It's heaven on earth.
  2. I agree, but it's never going to happen. There's a sadistic element to modern day Songkran. The real fun for many young Thais is to splash those that don't want to be soaked , if it's a farang that is even more hilarious. Some put chunks of ice in it ,or go straight for your crotch or face .Told a Thai once that he could splash me, but not my bag as there were documents in it .Of course, he went for the bag. Can't see how a mature adult can enjoy this for longer than a couple of hours.
  3. Very good is what they say when your Thai isn't good. Puht Thai chat (Speak Thai clearly) is what they say when it has become comprehensible.
  4. Them making fun of you when you mispronounce by repeating what you said with all your errors preserved, and have a whole group laughing at you , can be kind of discouraging for beginners. Can't remember to what extent the Thais do it ,because I took my babysteps in Thai decades ago, but ,man, do they love that here in Vietnam.
  5. The Vietnamese e-visa website can be tricky .You have to keep trying. The first time I applied for an e-visa it took me 9 hours and over ten attempts. They have since simplified the system ,and it's a lot faster now. I always pay with my Thai debit card .Never had a problem with payment. While there are some reports of it taking over a week, I have always received mine on the 3rd or 4 th working day after application.
  6. It's 90 days now. No more TV on arrival. Its all e-visas .
  7. Yes, unbelievable for a fascist to vote for Biden again. For fascists , retards, and retarded fascists there is only one choice, the Supreme orange retard.
  8. Just about anything is 1000 better than Trump:Cockroaches, rats, farts, even the smirking donkey ruling Thailand, Prayut, dirty toilets ,nose picking waiters....
  9. You found Bahasa difficult to learn. One of the easiest languages in the world to acquire, in sharp contrast to tiếng Việt, which you managed.
  10. Nice anecdote, but kluauy (banana)and khuay (c.ck) easy to differentiate, even for an English speaker.
  11. In the age of google translate it certainly isn't necessary anymore. But it helps a lot, especially in the sticks. I noticed the difference when I moved to Vietnam a couple of years ago. Vietnamese is even harder than Thai, the pronunciation that is ,not the reading and writing, which is much easier. Since I bike around a lot, I often spent time in places where they are not used to seeing farangs ,and where hardly anyone speaks English. There I really miss conversing with the locals, so much so that I have considered moving back to Thailand just because of the language.
  12. You got a point. The word Farang is often combined with the most "unflattering " words the Thai language has to offer.
  13. Everyone is talking about the morality and legality of it. Boring. What is wowing is the pure acrobatics of the act. Climaxing on top of a wave, a double climax.
  14. They have a pretty talkative female IO at the Pakkard crossing. Probably just showing off her English, rather than grilling you. 1500 Baht for the Cambodian VOA. Wow. I always pay 30 $, which is 1100 Baht at the moment
  15. King Crimson , Camel, Anathema, Marillion, The Winter Machine, Katatonia
  16. It doesn't get much bigger than the Stones.
  17. Yes, but they suddenly become very courageous when it's 10 against one.
  18. Yes, Thais don't like to be told off by a farang, they lose face, and they can be quite vindictive. So there is a good chance of him returning with reinforcement. better arm yourself, get your own reinforcement, or leave town for a while. Safety first is a Thai motto.

    Cheap gym

Unfortunately, Pattaya doesn't have any cheap gyms. They start at 120 Baht for a day pass ,and go way up . I spend most of my time in Vietnam now, where the gyms cost a fraction of that. Sun Fitness on Soi Buakao has aircon and Treadmills facing the road and the market, but don't think they have TV.Bring your smartphone or tablet for entertainment. It's 120 Baht a day, 990 a month. You would have to get up the stairs though. The reopened Tony gym at intersection of South Pat road /3rd requires no climbing, is the same price, but very polluted air you are breathing there. Supposedly it's 24/7. Kind of curious whether it's the same Tony. The old Tony closed down all his businesses, was gone for ages.Has he reappeared.?
  20. Well according to the cat experts in this thread, get a couple of felines.
  21. I do not, other than that curiosity killed the cat, and that they don't bark, and therefore haven't caused me any sleepless nights. Oh, and there are big cats like tigers that can eat much bigger prey than geckos, like humans .
