Supreme Court delays yellow-shirt verdict again

The Supreme Court on Thursday postponed the reading of the verdict on yellow-shirt protesters’ intrusion into the National Broadcasting Services (NBS) building nine years ago as some of the 85 defendants were absent.

The reading had already been postponed from August 25, when four defendants were absent, but the court did not issue arrest warrants against them.

The next reading was postponed until December 22.

The rally was part of the defunct People’s Alliance for Democracy’s movement against the elected government of then-premier Samak Sundaravej, whom they regarded as strongly connected with former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

The four-day occupation in August 2008 also involved weapons, which caused damage to property in the government-run building.

In 2014, the Appeals Court found the defendants guilty of criminal association, armed intrusion and threatening forceful attacks. The rally leader, Thanet Khamchoom, was also found guilty of carrying guns in public and possessing radio equipment without a licence.

So nice of the court not to issue warrants of arrest even the charges were criminal and involved firearms. After all it's only 9 years old case and postpone twice for same reason that the defendants were absent. A great show of judiciary sympathy in this parallel universe.

Not surprising. Double speed and face justice is so easy to see for who isn't blind.

Simple:

Yellow = not guilty, delay, procrastinate

Red = guilty

Wasn't Yingluck's verdict delayed for a month for exactly the same reason?

With a family name like Shinawatra I don't think that she is a Yellow shirt, but the verdict was delayed all the same.

Arrest warrant for her was issued same day as reading of verdict was first scheduled.

unfortunately this happens with both sides as well as civilian cases, the courts really need to stop delaying any cases due to non attendance and issue verdicts against the offenders as well as arrest warrants. Too often we see people walk when they should be in jail, doesnt matter if they are yellows, reds or from wealthy families, its way past time thai courts started doing the right thing and lock all these cretins up and issuing the verdicts on the stated days so they cannot keep being "sick/too busy" till the time limits run out.

And synchronised with the change of law that is applied retroactively ;)

There is no purpose in delaying the verdict It seems like just playing

If they are guilty delaying does nothing If they are not guilty delaying does nothing

Court administration and execution of its duties seems rather whimsical and easily disrupted.

85 defendants and  so every court's hearing a defendant absent himself......no hearing...nice ploy it can go on and on..:cheesy:

Yes of course 4 weeks is nearly exactly the same as 4 years.

A quote from the OP.

The reading had already been postponed from August 25, when four defendants were absent, but the court did not issue arrest warrants against them.

This was yet another postponement.

Wouldn't it be a good idea instead of postponing the verdict, just to give it on the due date.

If any of the defendants fail to turn uo slap and extra year on the guilty sentence. If they are found not guilty, they must serve the 1 year sentence anyway.

Double the sentence for every time they fail to turn up and make the sentence run consecutively rather than concurrently and NO time off for a wai, gone to be a monk, pay a fine etc/

There should be NO exceptions to the rule at all unless the defendant has proven to be dead.

And if dead but not yet proven?

It does. I recall a case, but not the details, when several officials from the Palace were tried for fraudulently selling honors. With one excuse and another the case dragged on for 25 years until the last witness had died. I'm sure there are cases where the case dragged on much longer than that.

I am quite sure that Suthep's case will break that record. He is doing quite well on the postponement side. Twice court postponement. He was busy with the Bangkok Shutdown was his excuse and followed with his  sojourn as monk.

I guess that´s good for all people wearing yellow shirts. I choosed to go more safr a couple of years ago. Only wear grey now. Never heard of any problem.
