Authorities in the north eastern Thai city of Khon Kaen said that work on the tram system is set to start early next year.

It is hoped that the 15 billion baht project will be completed in 2020.

Only a few loose ends from environmental studies need to be tied up before the project is given the green light by government in December, reported Daily News.

The tram will run along the Mitraphap (Friendship) Highway from Ban Samran to Ban Tha Phra. There will be a total of 16 stops.

A 200 rai repair and maintenance yard is also being considered.

Daily News reported that interest from the private sector is high with 20 private companies mulling the idea of replicating the Khon Kaen plan elsewhere.

So they are not sure yet whether they will actually repair and maintain the system........or has that part of the budget already been misappropriated ....spent....:whistling:
