The Royal Irrigation Department has warned northern provinces upstream of the Chao Phraya dam in Chai Nat to brace for possible overflows from the Ping river which is steadily rising due to heavy rain in Kamphaeng Phet province.

RID director-general Somkiart Prachamwong said Thursday (Oct 19) that the rising Ping river has also pushed up the water level in Chao Phraya river after the runoffs from Ping river merge with the Sakae Krang river before flowing in Chao Phraya river at Nakhon Sawan province.

The RID has kept the amount of water drained downstream from the Chao Phraya dam at about 2,600 cubic metres/second and this will increase the water level of Chao Phraya river which is upstream of the dam by about 20cm, resulting to overflows inundating riverside communities and farmland in Muang, Wat Singh and Manorom districts of Chai Nat, Muang district of Uthai Thani and Payuha Khiri district of Nakhon Sawan.
