Convert a Non-Imm to a TR visa?

Featured Replies

Everyone asks how to convert a tourist visa to a Non-Imm, but my question is;

can a Non-Imm be converted to a tourist visa?

It is all about having time at the end of a contract to tie up loose ends.

You cannot convert a non immigrant visa to a tourist visa.

You could get 7 days to leave the country after applying of an extension and paying the 1900 baht fee.

What non Imm' visa are you talking about, O, B multi entry, single entry?

Non-Imm B.

The re-entry issue is neither here nor there as it can be amended ^^

if you hold a multi entry non imm then you could do a border hop for a fresh stamp, or as ubon posted a 7 day 1,900 baht get out of town stamp.

Only within the first 12 months. However, I have been here for many years, so the non-imm B itself has past the initial 12 months.

So it's an extension or a visa ??

The OP's on an extension so the 7-day, 1900 baht extension is the only option. Could do fly-out/in and get a visa-exempt entry + extension if applicable. Or if the loose ends are particularly tough, get a SETV and hustle.

Tiffer, the immigration office cannot give you a tourist visa.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Sounds like you have an extension of stay, not a valid visa of any kind.

Cheap flight to Penang and back, around 2000 Baht? What's the problem?

As a side note, there is always this confusion about visas and extension of stays.

A visa is a permission to enter the country, many nationalities get one on arrival automatically.

The visa itself does not say how long you can stay, however, it must be utilized before a certain date.

The immigration officer then puts a stamp in your passport that says you are admitted until _________

Somebody who comes here for work usually has a visa called non-imm visa. This is still only a permission to enter, and you get a stamp admitted until________

Then to work here, you go to immigration, get a work permit and then an extension of stay permitted up to_________

You can apply for a non-imm multiple re-entry permit, which allows you to leave the country and enter again. without the multiple re-entry permit, you need to apply for a re-entry permit each time you leave the country.

You will notice upon entering the country again, the officer stamps your passport with "admitted until_______" and the expiry date of your extension of stay permit.

Why ask, when it makes no difference whatsoever? A Non-Imm visa or associated extension of stay can not be converted into a tourist visa, full stop.

Agreed.  He went on to ask the below question which had a blatantly obvious answer.  TV needs to come up with an effective member rating system so we can block some people that muddy the waters with nonsense and misinformation.

As soon as people learn the difference between a visa and an extension the need for 50% of the questions on this topic will go away.

Read the 1st post by the OP, all he mentions is a visa, later he says in a non direct way it's an extension.

So the obvious question is 'which do you have'?

And it still makes NO difference, neither can be converted to a tourist visa!

Absolutely, but, if he had a multi visa, as he stated in his opening post, in particular an 0, and in many cases a B then he would have no reason to even go near Imm' as it would stay valid till it's enter by date after he finished work. One day before the enter by date he could do out/in and get another 90 days and even extend that by 60 more at Imm'.

If you actually read the thread you would not have to ask pointless questions. He has clearly stated in the above post that he is on an extension of stay.

Go back to posts 3 and 4.

The answer in clear.

I have a non-imm-b visa which has been extended so the extension to stay is based on my employment contract.

Once the employment is terminated, the only options are

1. Leave the country the day the contract expires

2. Leave 7 days after the contract expiress (1,900 fee)

3. Leave and return on a 15 or 30 day tourist visa

Thanks you the input

Mostly 100% accurate. However, when you leave and return as a tourist, the options are 30-day visa exempt entry or 15-day visa on arrival (depending on nationality) or 60 days if you return with a tourist visa.
