I rent a little house on concrete stilts in a coconut plantation on Koh Phangan. The large, studio room has access to the roof space in one corner of the ceiling via a hatch that is covered by a rectangular peice of board that neatly fits that opening.

A few weeks ago, I saw that this rectangular piece of board was open! The board had been pushed to one side. I concluded that perhaps it had always been like that, and I just hadn't looked up previously. So I used a long pole to 'shuffle' the board along until it dropped back neatly into the access opening.

I was away in Pattaya for 5 days and returned to my house yesterday. Walking around, I was shocked to see this hatch open again!! I used the pole to close it again, but am now feeling somewhat apprehensive!

• My house is detached and on stilts - no-one can have access to it or the roof space

• Although I occasionally hear mice in the roof space. n0osmall animal could surely move that board

• No creature (snake, cow , naked woman etc) has ever fallen into my room, and I've never found any evidence of animals in my room.

So what is moving the board? Wind getting under the roof tiles? I think not - the board is too heavy...

Hmm - I don't think I will be able to sleep tonight.....

He's small, fit and agile, daily exercise mopping hospital floors.

I reckon he's in your roof space.

Most people do not get down to basics, and actually begin to appreciate life.

You seem to be doing so.

If so, then this is rather admirable, IMHO......

There are ALWAYS ghosts, wherever we go, in Thailand, or so they say.

Some ghosts are friendly.

But, from my experience, foreign ghosts, in the main, are not.

We had exactly such a thread just a very short while back.

Easily strong enough to move such a floor board would be a tokay.; I would then expect you see his largish droppings and hear its typicall territorial calls very soon. I would then, however, also expect your roof to have an opening somewhere else, so that this animal would come and go normally through there.

Stilts and vertical walls are, of course, no obstacle for such an animal.

Other signs you have a tokay in the house: no more of the small rock geckos, which you should normally have in droves.

The board looks large enough, that you cold stick your head, or at leats a hand up there to either see or feel, if such droppings exist. Careful, these roof spaces qare also home to centipedes, you do not want to touch one of those!

I would venture that an animal couldn't open it from the top. Is there something under the opening that something could stand on?

Is it Trump?

It's not a tookay, or if it is, then it's a mute tookay...

My friend Dr Google thinks it's not an animal at all, but due to air pressure/wind. There are plenty of large gaps at the eaves of this 'traditional' house, so any animal or even GG could crawl in - so wind blowing in is no problem to obtain. A strong wind/storm and Google suggests that the difference in air pressure could lift that board

Phangan that is almost mandatory, it are the bigger gecko's usually. But snakes very common too.

How far over is the board moved? How wide is the open gap?

Put an eye-screw or bolt in the center

and hang a weight of some sort.

Maybe water jug.

Or call Ghost Busters.

About 30cm!

Due to the location it's unlikely that wind is moving it. You got yourself a Poltergeist most likely. Best to enquire if there were any violent deaths in that house. Next contact a Catholic priest for an exorcism. Record it and post the video on Youtube, you'll make a fortune.

I'm agreeing with the ghost suggestions — @simon43 , you better place an open red Fanta in the spirit house (ghost home) before going to sleep tonight — unsatisfied ghosts can be quite irritating poltergeists (talking from experience)...

Could be a snake. Have a look inside and see if you can see anything.

If you don't have a ladder try opening the hatch. Taping your mobile to the pole, hitting the record button on the video and rotate the pole around to grab a 360 view.

Let us know what you find.

Gravity would surely ensure that board sits in the cut-out. Hard to see wind moving it.

Darker forces must be at work here.
