Mechanic killed in ten wheeler collision as pick-up taken out on test run

PHETCHABURI: -- The owner of a garage was killed after he invited a co-worker to take out a customer's pick-up on a test run after a tune up of the engine.

 

The Isuzu ended up embedded in the back of a ten wheeler on the Tha Yang to Kaeng Krachan road.

 

Garage owner Rithichai Urathai, 27, from Tha Yang was the passenger and died at the scene.

 

Driver Thinkorn Khlaikaew, 29, from Sam Roi Yot was cut from the wreckage in a thirty minute operation and rushed to the local hospital in a critical condition.

 

There were 100 meter braking marks on the road that is in Tha Yang district of Petchaburi province.

 

Friend of the victim Piyathida Mekha, 35, said that Rithichai had done tune-up work on the engine of the pick-up and had gone out with Thinkorn to test it.

 

The truck appeared to have come out of the Amornphan building supplies depot.

 

The driver of the truck fled the scene.

bet it was one of those no-look merges onto a main road; pickup driver likely going too fast; bad driving all around = fatal accident

Wonder if the anti-lock brakes, if the pickup had them, checked-out. Tires do not stop a vehicle very well when they heat up and liquify when locked-up. They do generate a lot of smoke, though.

RIP, young man and wish a full recovery to the driver.

Test run?  More like a high-speed joyride.  They need to clamp down on these repair shops that allow the mechanics to take customer cars out on the road.

Oh, and a truck driver who fled the scene...they should round these chaps up for the next Thai olympic team. They seems to have it away on their toes quite well

From the photo in the article it looks like a stock truck to me.

When upgrading your engine to obtain faster speeds. You must not forget to also upgrade your brakes ...

A "dick-wad" ordinary pickup with standard wheel on the back mags on front, that was possibly going too fast. 

300 foot skid marks  usually indicate he was speeding.

The driver of the 10 wheeler fled, but the owner of the truck will know his name and the BIB will be round at the home he lives in right around tea time for a beer and a chat followed by a ride in the police truck. All assuming he's gone home to the wife 'n kids.

Never mind who dies as long as we know the innocent users are much safer with one moron less.

To get a 100 metre skid mark the ute must have been going just over 130 k an Hr  I would say for sure he was going to fasthe should have been test driving the ute on a race track,,,,Sorry Thais use any road as an Race track,,,,

Sad, but let us look at it from another angle, two less crazy drivers to worry about, few million more to go... 

allowing a mate to do a test drive on someone elses car, real smart of the mechanic. Then to allow him to be doing well over 100k is just plain stupid, obviously letting him see just how quick it could go after the tune up, Truck driver was typical with just pulling out without looking but to have to break for 100 metres then still have this much damage says it all. The driver needs to be charged for speeding and the death of the mechanic and the truck driver needs to be charged as well, will change nothing in the way some thais drive though, they just dont care

Where's the wreakage, I don't see any police pointing it out..

100 metres of rubber on the road and compete wipe-out of the pick up, probably still in excess of 100 clicks on impact. 

But the thorough and detailed 5 minute accident analysis that is normally undertaken will establish the usual - -  brake failure. 

From the photo in the article it looks like a stock truck to me.

They better ban all cartuning cause it's only done for racing.

 

Pickups are not designed for racing and the roads not either.

But he forgot to engage his brain. 

 

Too many drivers/riders are just 'crashes' going somewhere to happen.

Is this the usual standard of reporting?  If a ute (pickup for Yanks) can't stop or slow enough in 100 metres but leaves skid marks for that distance it must have had teflon tyres.  Then to become buried in the back of the truck?  Was the truck reversing at 100 km/hr?

Even idiots don't deserve to die. Maybe people without compassion....? You may also notice it was the passenger that died. High speed/No seat belts/Nothing new.

100m braking marks would suggest quite a speed

One unhappy customer, one dead, one badly injured..... and one still on the run.
