Cambodian Minister visits migrant workers in Thailand

Featured Replies

Labour Minister Ith Samheng went to Thailand yesterday to examine the process of providing legal status to Cambodian workers there. He said the Cambodian government would meet its Thai counterparts to agree on conditions for smooth processing as some workers say they wait a long time and need original documents.

Mr Samheng went to a migrant worker processing post at Big C Ladphrao market in Bangkok and asked workers about their difficulties. His spokesman Heng Sour said: “The minister will collect the workers’ suggestions to discuss with Thai government officials areas of difficulty in regards to getting legal status in order to make the process smooth.”

The ministry said the Committee for Legalising Cambodian Workers Residing and Working in Thailand has announced an agreement that workers would get travel documents and Overseas Cambodia Worker Cards on the same day This would make it easy for workers becasue they would not need to come twice, on different days.
