31 Days ?

Featured Replies

Arrive on 5th Dec and leave on 4th Jan, this is 31 days counting arrival and departure days.

Will there be any grief overstaying 1 day? Or should I go to Laos for a day trip?

  • Popular Post

Anyone else want to do the honours ?

..........No overstay fine for one day if you leave by airport .

500 Baht per day fine if you leave by land

Do you arrive on visa exempt (no visa, just stamp on arrival)?

If you want perfect peace of mind you can extend you stay for another 30 days at the immigration office.

Costs 1900 Baht(!) and should be done about a week before expiry.

On the other hand: there is no sanction for a one day overstay (no ban, no fee [at least at the airport]).

Still you might be concerned to be caught on the last day on the way to the border/airport.

Thanks for that, do not have daily flights so it was 31or 28 days

If you fly in/out then you might have more of a hassle with the airline which might refuse you.

Whether or not is in the crystal ball.

Technically you can overcome this risk with a cheap (1000 Baht or so) forward ticket/booking to Malaysia e.g.

Simply throw to the bin when you are in Thailand.

No. They don't, as standard practice, charge if leaving one day late, and they should waive the fine (500 baht). They might stamp your passport with an overstay stamp. An overstay stamp shouldn't cause you any problems in the future, but it would be better to avoid it.

You could get a 30 day extension from immigration for 1,900 baht.

That is not correct. If you leave from DM or Swampy it's free, from all provincial airports you have to pay 500 baht and you do get a stamp in your passport. Also they supply you with an official police receipt for the 500 baht.

There are around 28 provincial airports in Thailand.

So you've overstayed by one day, departing at 28 different airports

Make that 27, my provincial airport doesn't even have any IO's based there.

Yes you will be charged 500 thb for a day's overstay - in Phuket that is.

Just pay up - they do not care.

How about boarding rules? technically the OP does not have a flight out within 30 days so he could be refused boarding.

The short answer is...not likely any grief. Buddy of mine did it recently (1 day overstay) departing Swampy and other than a slight delay, no grief or problems.
