Moving in appartment without Wifi / need fast unlimited internet

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, im moving into an apparment and need to get  wifi

i am a total newb to this and not sure how to proceed.

i like fast internet and want to pay around 700-1000 baht per month.

Now i guess i need to buy a wifi router.. and then ? how do i get the monthly internet ? which one is reccomended
I have never done that and would be happy if someone could give me some advice.

Due to my work  i need about 10 GB a day - so sim cards with data are no options.. i am planning to stay 6 months , maybe longer.. so a 1 year contract is also not needed.

Thanks.

Apartment building or condo ? Makes a big difference.

In a typical Thai apartment you will not likely be allowed to bring in a wired connection to your unit unless the building is already wired and ready. If it is then it is simply a matter of evaluating plans, AIS/TRUE, etc

A condo will usually have prewiring and also usually there will be a contact list for service connection for multiple providers down in the lobby...ask someone.

Contrary to your assertion. Mobile data is an option.

All networks have capped speed unlimited options.

DTAC unlimited 10 Mbps offer for 214 baht per week may suffice as a stopgap until you can get find out which terrestrial providers are available at your apartment/

I've used True pocket Wifi, 12GB cap about ฿900/month, for over a year and have been quite happy. It is unlimited and I've never come close to going over 12GB. The only downside is typically over-usage around noon most weekdays so service drops for up to 30 minutes.  True is notorious for selling to more subscribers than they have internet availability and when folks are on their lunch break, it's hit and miss.

In Thailand, Unlimited Package and Nonstop Package are different.
--> Unlimited is the internet can be used unlimited which no reduce speed within the period of the package.
--> Nonstop is the internet can be used at maximum speed. After reach the usage limit, internet speed will reduce to low speed.

For the unlimited package, I recommend you choose these packages for the prepaid sim. These package are Unimited no crap no reduce speed.

Remark: The prices are exclude VAT, please add 7% of the prices of each packages

My mansion is contracted with TRUE. So I cannot have other services. My internet is about ฿850 a month but is in a package. Stand alone is still under ฿900. I live near Ladphrao, location makes a big difference my LAN is super fast, and I also have a 5.0 and a 2.5 Wifi included in the router. IMG_0925.thumb.PNG.f03fa4d96315545d9313205e033f30d0.PNGThis speedtest is on my 5.0 wifi. I hope this info is helpful

Hi. Thanks a lot guys. I will be asking at the office today and check for the best options.

10GB a day was probably too much but its surely something between 3-4gb

So the data unlimited could work. I also saw some 60 gb packages for about 1000 baht and if i have to pay more it would be ok.

Ah, beg pardon. That's a lot of Gigs. Even with unlimited, the speed just wouldn't be there. Best of luck.

You can also get a 4g router they are about 2800 baht d link has a good one , they have two external antennas for the 4g and two internal for the wireless n , they are capable of 100mbs download speed depending on the provider. You just slide the sim in the back, they are more bulky then a pocket wifi but still no problem to take it with you when you travel you just need 240v power.  Can connect up to 10 devices and great range with the antennas.

Do not buy anything until you know which service you are going for. Many will give you a free or cheap router, and some may require you to use a specific router or type of router for best results (3/4G services, for example).

So ask your building front office first and leave the hardware till last.

This after I had already pointed out in posts #3 & #4 that mobile broadbnd via a SIM was a viable option.

So one could only assume that you didn't read or did not understand.

Hopefully after reading, all sanity restored. :partytime2:

if anyone is wondering or also looking for unlimited internet:

I ended up getting a very small portable wifi router from from tp link 4g for 3200

then I went to AIS and bought this 250 baht 1 week unlimited 10 mbps package + sim card ( I was lucky to get 20 mbps for 1 month thanks to promotion )

lets see how fast it is after the promotion ends but so far im happy with the speed
