Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwon

Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwon on Wednesday insisted that the recent death of a military student was related to his own health problems, not any brutal beating.

“He was ill. No one beat him up,” said Prawit, who is also the deputy prime minister overseeing security affairs.

He said he believed the Armed Forces Academy Preparatory School (AFAPS) explanation in the case of Phakhapong “Moei” Tanyakan.

Phakhapong, a first-year student at the AFAPS, died on October 17 under what his family believes is suspicious circumstances. According to the family, he almost died two months earlier due to punishment he received at the school.

The official autopsy by the military-owned Phramongkutklao Hospital shows Phakhapong died of acute heart failure.

Asked about the punishment related to discipline issue, Prawit said all AFAPS students had to deal with that.

“When I was a student there, I also received punishment and lost consciousness because of that. Anyway, I’ve survived,” he said.

And that makes beatings OK does it? Stunning to think that someone with such a piss poor attitude, who is running the country, thinks that beating the crap out of cadets is alright. One wonders what it will take and when, Thailand will emerge from the dark ages.

Given he lies about everything else, why would you assume he is being truthful here?

So Prawit says the young man did not die from a beating.

How does he know? Was he there?

Man could not tell the truth if his life depended on it.

Hopefully one day his life does depend on it

sorry to hear that

So I guess the multiple bruises, the fractured ribs and collar bones were all self-inflicted.  Regretful that Prawit survived his beating, if he ever really got one, which I doubt. He wouldn't survive a slap in the face from a old woman.

Barbaric.

I also received punishment and lost consciousness because of that. Anyway, I’ve survived,” he said.

So what about the heart failure?  I suppose after a massive beating his heart failed!

A severve beating and probable long term concussion effects pretty much explain a lot about him..

Ranks have closed....  I experience, so should their mentality...

Always believe the oppersite of what this man says, that will be nearer the truth

Tragic story,  but was it necessary to head the story with a picture of the poor man's ruptured liver.

That's what the picture is isn't it?

heart failure as the alleged cause of death is nonsense - there must be a reason for the heart failure. This would be the cause of death.

(Except in the case of coronary heart disease - but this is very unlikely in a young man. It would be obvious in the autopsy)

'First, 'e said "Yeah, I done a lot of murders and that. And thieving. And raping. So what?" Then 'e somehow fell down the stairs as our hofficers was momentarily distracted. And that's God's truth, your Honnour.'

Unfortunately that will probably serve as a plausible explanation here...

Yep.  Classic hazing mentality and abuse of power.  Disgusting

Chaka Demus  knew what was happening!!

But beatings ? WHY WHY WHY ?

Well, I guess this puts the issue to rest. Prawit is an unimpeachable source and must be believed. The parents need to go for some re-education.
