The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission reaped over 46 million baht from its third auction of “lucky” phone numbers on Sunday, said Mr Korkit Danchaivichit, deputy secretary-general of the telecom regulator.

Altogether 95 “lucky” phone numbers were put on auction and 36 of them were auctioned off, with the highest bidding price being number 096-9999999 at 4,504,444 baht from the starting price of three million baht.

I remember the time when a companys products were the reason to success. Not a lucky phonnumber.

Vanity, show-off and self absorption cost a lot of money, nothing to

do with 'luck' only silly money to burn....

Leave it to the Thais to demonstrate the follies of mankind on an epic scale.  Lucky phone numbers, lucky license plates are all available to those stupid enough to throw their money away foolishly.  What a country.

Such auctions are very common, worldwide....

When people have money to throw, they are obviously very rich...and maybe a bit stupid....and this applies all around the world !

Old money, New Money, Stupid Money.

The new classifications of social standing world wide.

I should be so luckeeeee!

Proof that many people here are nuts...!

Thai's didn't  invent vanity or stupidity. Ostentatious displays of wealth are common in all societies where wealth exists.

Now if you wrre of a dubious nature, you could make note of these numbers and ...... (no details but use your imagination) because obviously those on the other end maybe quite well healed..

Even essentially poverty striken countries have 'unusally' wealthy..theres no poor presidents in africa.

Ahhhh!......the cost of face.

Try calling that number in the article.

Nein, Nein, Nein ?

How many of the dead on the road every year have 'lucky ' phone numbers !

No doubt lucky enough to enable morons to use the phone while driving, without fear of losing more control than usual ...

I just came here to have a moan .

What is the subject to moan about today ?

Phone numbers ?

Errrmmm : Typical Thais , the roads are dangerous enough without Thais having telephone numbers
