Deserted
I can't seem to quite measure the distance from the centre of Chiang Mai to the temple on Doi Suthep. From the edge of town it says 18kms. It's so long since I went up it that I can't be sure and always remember it as being more than that. Has anyone cycled up it to the temple? About how long did it take? How did you find it? Tough climb? I'd imagine its 2 hours work at least.
gaz2011
From the Zoo to Doi Suthep is 11kms then another 4kms to the Palace. It's a long climb but it's a constant gradient with an average of 6%. Should be closer to 1 hour than 2 hours work. Enjoy.
Deserted
Thanks, have you done it yourself?
gaz2011
Yes, I did it last year. After suffering up Doi Inthanon the previous day it was very enjoyable. Made even more special by seeing at least 50 other cyclists going up and down the mountain during my ride.

Deserted
Thanks, its been 9 years since I was last there and remember it as being much further than it actually is.
el jefe
The fastest time for the 10.7 km climb is 25:27. According to Strava there have been 64,520 recorded climbs for the full 10.7 kms. Most days, over 200 riders a day do the climb. Here's a link. Note how steady the grade is for most of the ride. https://www.strava.com/routes/11309121

Deserted
It's not as bad as what I remember it to be and quite doable.
bobfish
It's a nice ride, as hard or easy as you want to make it. Continue up to Phu Ping Palace for a bit more of the same - or Doi Pui if you've got the tyres for it. Edited December 3, 2017 by bobfish

It's a one-lane road with too much traffic unless you're on the road by 6:00am.
