As a matter of interest the thread seems to come out in favour of Eukanuba and Science Diet, so why are you now buying Alpo. Is that also good?

Locating it in Chiangmai, not so simple or else would probably stock up on it. He seems to like Alpo better but it is not much more beneficial then Pedigree.

that is more or less my conclusion also; if eating and looks well, then ok. for the most part. however, using empirical evidence i can say that all three of our yard dogs (outdoor only summer winter etc) lost weight and coats didnt look as glossy etc while they were getting some super cheap 'fill the stomach and save money' type dog food.

we switchted to a better brand (also more expensive but need to give less for good results) with higher protein (working dogs after all) and meat appears in the first few ingredients; less corn, soy etc. now better coats and keeping their weight up. (yes they are wormed regularly but they work hard, and need the calories in winter. they also get double rations a.m and p.m in winter and dried bread as a 'snack'. summer, they cut their intake by more than half actually.

the eukanuba and science diet types (nutra nugget were on the list last year until their fiasco) were recommended for us also to use for : the emu!! as the best high protein meat type dog food.

on the other hand, dont forget that dogs food companies gear their sales pitches to the human owners using guilt etc as a selling point. vets sell what sponsors they get (same as medications and stuff); just like the child food/clothing/gadget marketing systems.

i would say, stick with something that works, and fits your pocket and seems like a reasonable brand with reasonable ingredients and is readily available so u dont have to change often. after all, she isnt working (police, search and rescue, etc). give her food the same attention as u would give your own diet/nutritional needs.
