Pattaya schoolboy dreams of taking tourists on unmanned flights one day!

A Pattaya schoolboy told manager that he dreams of developing an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) so that tourists can be taken on pleasure trips without a pilot.

This is one of the ideas of ambitious "Nong Beam" or 13 year old Chanitnan Charoenphot a M2 student at Maryvit School in Bang Lamung.

Beam has already designed his own drone - it took just a couple of months and 10,000 baht support from his family.

The budding inventor now hopes to go a step further on the road to unmanned flight by carrying people. He hopes to help those in the agricultural and tourism sectors.

Proud mum Penlak Charoenphot said that Beam has been fascinated by electronics since the age of 7. He started looking at how fans worked and showed an interest in all kinds of electrical circuits.

He works on his designs at least two hours each day after regular school, she said.

"We encourage him to keep trying and by trial and error find solutions to problems," she told Manager.

Good for him... He'll go far, hopefully....

It also incorporates the "Ehangen fail-safe system", which means in the event of a malfunction the drone will immediately land in the nearest available area.

Translated into common English?   In the event of a malfunction the drone will crash, just like any other heavier than air vehicle

Next Thai invention to complement his achievement - unmanned parachutes.

I commend his enterprise and his parents' support. He hasn't yet burned the family home to the ground, so his efforts so far are successful.?

I thought what's the point of having  no pilot if you're just going to put people in there anyway? But the I remembered - this would be the aerial version of the Thai minivan. Safety first right.

Fantastic ...

All he needs now is to apply his idea to the tourists

Will he include them in Chinese Group Tours?

Will he also allow groups to fly at one time, while the group share the 1 coke

More deadly accidents waiting to happen in Pattaya.

Hmmm... 'Designed his own drone' ? The one in the picture looks suspiciously like it's been 'assembled' from commercial parts like thousands of other hobbyists around the world, rather than designed.

Looks rather more like mummy and daddy stumped up the Baht!

In a previous life I worked in the retail model/hobby trade in the UK and every year we would get parents wanting to 'help' their offspring 'do design & technology' at school by buying results in the form of commercially made kits.

Good luck to the kid for having parents that want to help him and have the means to do so, hope he goes far.

Yes but unfortunately it won't be going up in the world.

Sorry couldn't resist it

Yep... cool.... I’m getting manager online around to show them my unmanned lawn mower... admittedly it doesn’t work yet, but I have high hopes

Let us not knock (or mock) the boy's dreams.
