Where on Earth is safest from global catastrophe?

the event of a global catastrophe, such as a nuclear war, an enormous volcanic eruption or large asteroid strike, the best place to be is Australia, according to a new study.

Researchers looked at the places that were most resilient to global catastrophic risks, which are events that would kill more than 10% of the global population over several months or years.

"These kinds of catastrophes are under-researched" because they are not very likely, study first author Florian Ulrich Jehn, a researcher at FernUniversität in Hagen, Germany, told Live Science. "That makes them easy to ignore."

Australia is considered the best place to survive a global catastrophe due to its location, food production capabilities, and energy infrastructure.

Middlesbrough........nobody wants to go there, it looks like its been bombed and abandoned already, and it will never be impacted by global warming.......... its cold, wet and miserable.....global warming will be a huge benefit.

New Zealand? Great people and great nature. If I was young, I would definitely have thought about moving there. But now? I would not bother thinking about it too much. I will take what comes and hope for the best. I am happy where I am, and if things ever get so bad that life comes down to basic survival, well, then some kind of action needs to be taken, depending on how bad it gets. But if it continues like this for another two or three decades, great. One thing is for sure, we are living today, and what comes tomorrow we have little control over.

New Zealand does have a retirement option, but it is much more capital heavy than Thailand.

The main one is the Temporary Retirement Visitor Visa. You must be 66 or older, invest NZD 750,000 in New Zealand for two years, have another NZD 500,000 available for living costs, and have at least NZD 60,000 annual income. You also need health or travel insurance. It lets you stay for two years, bring your partner, and travel in and out, but you cannot normally work locally. You can apply again when it expires if you still meet the requirements.

NZD 500,000 ≈ ฿9.65 million
NZD 60,000 annual income ≈ ฿1.16 million/year, or about ฿96,500/month.

So the New Zealand retirement route requires roughly ฿24 million in investment plus available funds combined, plus the income requirement.
