The Bangkok Post website was taken offline by hackers on Tuesday morning.

At around 11.30am people trying to access the Bangkok Post home page and other pages were met with the words:

Hacker Sakit Hati

Your Website Has Been Damaged

Heavy metal music playing in the background also accompanied the message.

yep. I had just tried to access it from here in the States and that is exactly what was displayed. As of this moment the site is now displaying a dark page saying something about service upgrades and technical difficulties

Working fine all morning for me here in BKK.

Sounds like hacker from the south because thats Malay language which means pain hearted hackers.

Why the "upgrading" and "enhancing" "to serve you better" BS? Clearly a question of "face" here as it appears they do not want to admit they have been hacked. Newspapers are supposed to tell the truth. But then, shopkeepers probably don't know that.

They must have published upsetting news about the South

The hackers must have been as sick as I am off seeing the same article for twelve days about some university team that won 100 000 baht. Looks like their journalists are seriously short of topics or their editor has a child in that team.

Started getting virus warnings when accessing Bangkok Post site. Later got the message about upgrades to the site. Looks like more was hacked than the site since my virus protection detected a virus and closed the site on my computer. May be worth checking on Mac computers without full protection.

Sad for thailands future indeed

Sad to see another relatively open-mouthed outlet and media being crumpled in a country where speaking what you think and believe is today banned... No, they are still not up and running, maybe they never will be again, referring to my user name here
