THE COMMERCE Ministry will draft a new set of regulations to enforce a ban on an expanded list of products that cannot be traded with North Korea in a bid for Thailand to fully comply with United Nations Security Council resolutions.

Helicopter fuel, ships, aircraft and minerals are among the list of items banned under the proposed regulations as approved by the Cabinet.

The Security Council resolution is aimed at penalising North Korea over its nuclear development programme while the United States has requested that Thailand and other allied countries step up sanctions and stop trading with the Asian country.

Joseph Yun, the US special envoy for North Korea policy, visited Japan and Thailand last week to urge both countries to strengthen pressure on North Korea.

In Bangkok, he met with General Wallop Raksanoh, secretary-general of National Security Council, who also urged the US to keep open a dialogue channel with North Korea.
