BANGKOK, 21st December 2017 (NNT) – Thailand and China are on course with plans to engage in closer cooperation in all areas.

Chinese Ambassador, H.E. Mr. Lyu Jian, on Wednesday paid a visit to Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-Cha to formally introduce himself upon taking office in Thailand.

Gen. Prayut offered a warm welcome to Mr. Lyu and expressed confidence in the new Chinese Ambassador’s ability to promote bilateral ties.

Mr. Lyn, at the same time, offered his compliments on Thailand’s fast development, particularly with the current government’s 20-year national strategy, Eastern Economic Corridor project, and Thailand 4.0 policy.

The Chinese Ambassador stated that there are now more opportunities for the two countries to have further economic cooperation as China is ready to support the private sector to invest in Thailand.

Meanwhile, the Thai PM noted that both countries would be arriving at another milestone when the construction of the Thailand-China railway project begins on Thursday, thanks to the cooperation of the Chinese government.

Our future could look like this:

URUMQI, China—This city on China’s Central Asia frontier may be one of the most closely surveilled places on earth.

Security checkpoints with identification scanners guard the train station and roads in and out of town. Facial scanners track comings and goings at hotels, shopping malls and banks.

This is why, ultimately, China will fail or fall apart. It is the world's most advanced police state. Economic creativity eventually fails due to corruption or shackles on innovation that invariably threaten the state.

I doubt that "Windows XP" and two core processors could cope with that!

Be funny to hear all the xenophobic nationalist locals whine when shortly the orders start flowing in from Beijing...not far off now.

Are the manufacturers of luxury watches already working on a 'Special Colony Edition'?

Beware the Greeks come bearing gifts ? :whistling:

Thailand has done quite well by balancing-off rival powers against one another, over recent centuries, it could be a pity if that long-term diplomatic-strategy were abandoned, but then again  "Up to You !"

Some of the daily anti Thai TVF posters will be escorted out of the country wondering the entire time how they were identified and shocked they are not special with inalienable rights. Never to return their voices in Thailand will be mute.

Thailand should cooperate with China and learn the methods to deal with corrupt ministers. Heard they lined them up in the firing squad.

Handing over the keys.

Hopefully every one has gotten the clue by then and moved to greener pastures. Let them have Thailand, it's become an old bag.

Will you please tell everyone at CW for me? It takes me 8 hours to get an extension of stay. All those people in line ahead of me asking to stay another year in Thailand and all those behind me need to get the news this place is an old bag. 5555

Exactly what China wants to hear.........................................:cheesy:

Two articles that talk about China's expansion into third world type countries. They want to buy the country to extract the resources.

Happy chappie with big smile on the dial, buyer beware. An expansion of "Spencer's Theory".

I see your point, but xenophobia is defined as : fear or hatred of foreigners, people from different cultures, or strangers:

Since most Thais have some Tai ethnic roots/connection to China, they seem to be less concerned with the relationship with China as opposed to, say, the Europeans or North Americans.   Their cultures are not  vastly different. China has no qualms about colonizing other countries for economic gain, they learned well from the British on that score.

The "orders" have been emanating from China for years through successive  governments, whether Thaksin, Abhisit, Yingluck or Prayut's military junta.

I'd say this is good news for Thailand. Investment in any form would be welcome especially infrastructure.

Yeah, but China investments come in the form of loans. At commercial rates. With default clauses.

Yes I know in Africa its Gold and Diamonds as the default. I posted on another thread that the Goldmine arbitration with the Aussie company after they were 44ed out, was something to do with a default to Chinas loan. May not be  China's only purpose they need a friend inside ASEAN for the South China Sea dispute. Trump visited both Vietnam and the Philippines who are in dispute with Chinas claim.

If they ever had been getting 'orders', then no loans were entered into. The loans and the projects are becoming real. That's what is being discussed above.

Have another look at the press articles and do some more research Dave.

Great posts Dah.

The Chinese sure are throwing some serious money at Africa:

The top five recipients of Chinese loans during the corresponding period were: Angola ($21.2bn), Ethiopia ($12.3bn); Sudan ($5.6bn); Kenya ($5.2bn); and the Democratic Republic of Congo ($4.9bn).
