Imagine the scene. An overweight and intimidating-looking LAX officer painfully scrutinizes the papers handed over by the tiny Asian lady. Glancing up, he matches the face to the passport. Looking down, he checks his screen’s blacklist.

The young lady, jet-lagged after 20 hours in transit from Thailand, signs deeply and in halting English explains her simple goal: to visit the in-laws.

My missus comes through the EU Line with me. She has a spousal visa. Never had any problems. Whenever they do ask her questions, she’s well spoken and polite. Usually after first question they stop screening. IO will scrutinize you if they feel the need to.

Read the original article and see why Meghan or Angela or both should be offended!

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

A woman in love with a man from another country, taking on his name, bearing his children should by all accounts adopt his citizenship.

With a name like that doors seem to open faster I guess when visiting Thailand from the U.K..

... and what does a man in love get in Thailand that marries a Thai woman, and is father to their children? The answer is nothing, because he's a Farang !

It's all in the name.

Angela Merkel.

Meghan Markle.

"With Meghan Merkle paving the way, adopting UK citizenship upon marriage will hopefully ease the law for the less titled."   Why?  Does Thailand provide a reciprocal agreement?    Not bloody likely.

As I said in a previous post, I think the writer is well connected and out of touch with the reality here..

I read the full article and did not understand the reason for it.

Is it that people have difficulties at immigration checks? Nothing novel about that, people have being having issues with immigration since there was immigration,Not only Thai ladies.

The Immigration officer said : "Be smart, collect them all – husbands and passports; in life you must have choices.  Get an Australian one next time,” he said.  "

I am a bit confused by that.

My wife holds both US and Thai passports for many years, and never had a problem leaving the US on her US passport and entering Thailand with her Thai passport. For reasons that I explain in a thread I just started with question concerning Dual and  Triple citizenship.: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/1016922-can-a-thai-have-triple-citizenship/

Upon looking at info concerning the subject I came upon a list of countries that do not allow dual citizenship and Thailand was included on the list.

http://dlgimmigration.com/united-states-citizenship/list-of-countries-that-allow-or-disallow-dual-citizenship/

Some the replies on the thread I started,, the immigration officers statement in this Thread OP,,   and my past experience seem to contradict that list.

Now I am a bit confused  (more so than usually  LOL)

I completely missed the point of this "article"

I must admit that the article confused me also....Why did the husband go thru the fast tract and leave his wife to go thru the immigration line. I've been taking my wife to the US for 10 years and always she goes thru the fast tract (US citizens only) with me even through she's has a Thai passport.

Hmmmmm. I read it, but I saw nothing as to why either should be offended.

1 minute later-

Oh I get it now. Took me a minute for brain to engage gear. Very subtle indeed

Maybe he doesn't know that she can do that. I wouldn't know that.

when I go through immigration every so often I get a thai officer that insists on going through all my visa stamps and querying everyone even when they are years old, my 12 month extension is ok and so is my re entry permit but they still stuff me around and it has taken almost 30 minutes at times holding everyone else up, think some just like to use their "power" to screw around with you

I don't know about you but I get love and affection from my Thai wife and son and the only problem I have had with immigration since I started coming here in 1993 was only getting a 30 day visa when I came back from the UK in 2004.

When I asked the Immigration Officer why he explained that even though I had a visa valid for another 8 months I had forgotten to get a re-entry permit before I left.

The fault was completely mine and I apologised to him.

I cannot repeat what my wife said when I got home and told her but I didn't think she knew words like that.

When she came back to the UK with me in 2003 I went through the UK line at Heathrow and she went through the no UK and non EU line. I got through first and stood behind the desk when she got there and vouched for her. We had no problem.

Must be you. I've never had that problem and never been behind anyone with that problem.

Immigration, almost everywhere, is a shake of dice as to what happens.   My worst experiences were in Hong Kong, where I and whole group of people got a body search.   No idea why.   The other was in Switzerland.

My Thai partner has been to the US with me and actually has gotten through Immigration before me!

Entering Thailand is also an interesting experience.   Sometimes it's easy, other times they go through the passport thoroughly.

what did i just read?

Quote

This feminist, self-righteous and jetlagged lady was about to give this immigration officer Col. Thawee (assumed name) a mouthful.

Sigh...

The "Do you know who I am? Na Ayuthaya!" didn't work for the princess?

Yeah, your not alone!

Not sure what this is all about , moving on to the next thread ....  :coffee1:

Third/first world problems

Never a problem here for 15 years .....And that's Third/first world problems

Total nonsense

The article is just from a Thai girl trying to show off that she has US and Thai passport with now an Australian husband.

When my wife first came to the USA I was told to stay with her in line and all went smooth. After she got her green card she uses the same line as US passport holders.  I think I have been questioned more than her over the years returning the USA.

Same here.   Partner, no problem.   Me, not always so lucky.

Both my wife and I have never had an issue entering Thailand, I just go with her through the Thai line, which is basically has one or two people.

In Australia we line up like everybody else for about 30 minutes as we use our Ozzie passports and cannot do the fast track as they don't allow you through with kids.

Having said all of that, it has got to be the most boring job in the world, having people staring at you, while you shuffle through the passport and check visa's and stamps etc etc, in the middle of your meal, "mostly in Thailand"

Image result for picture of a thai immigration officer eating on the job

typical amateurish, low quality journalism, why dont thai 'journalists' take the time to check their facts? where is the sub ed? pathetic.
