I did translation of spanish name( for birth cert) LITRES, Do ลิเทรส ? is correct

Featured Replies

I just have little knowledge in Thai, but I am just confuse and scared if ลิเทรส is pronounce like Literas, Literas, etc!..  or the right one "LITRES" ( like spanish pronounciation )

I though it can be pronounce ( ลิ ) Lee, ( เท ) Tae, ( รส ) Ras.. I hope it's not pronounce like this .. but right "LITRES" or Leetress

They give the translation but I am confused if it's wrong or not, before I submit it as legal document, it must don't have mistake.

แมทเทรสซิตี้ is the Thai version of "Mattress City".  เทรส being pronounced /thrêet/.  By analogy ลิเทรส would be pronounced /líˑthrêet/.

You're right, however, that it could be read as /líˑtheeˑrót/.

if you want to make sure tre is pronounce tre in stead of te ros put a tan thakat( ์) over the s

making ลิเทรส์

Except that could also be pronounced /líˑsee/, so it doesn't "make sure".

And it doesn't really address the desire for a pronunciation "LITRES" which includes a final consonant.

The best way is to simply substitue the letters which is what "they gave" if 'they ' are educated I should accept it.

I just had two Thais read ลิเทรส and it was OK they both got 'tr' which is good because ทร can be 's'.

You do realize that Thai syllables can't end with 'sa' so 'ess' or 'es' will be just 'ed' where the 'd' is the tongue only touching back of the front teeth or gum without making a sound.

When a Thai reads the name they sat 'litred' and you simply say "yes, Litres" properly. If you remain in Thailand you will get used to hearing Litred and probably use it also.

Ok, right, is because I need to give the birth certificate ( sutibat ) with the name of the mother, which is finish by this Litres, to the accredited translator of EU country Embassy. I will submit the copy of the passport with Litres, and the future sutibat with that ลิเทรส ..just hope they will accept that ลิเทรส is a Litres for the another translator ( thai to EU country accredited Embassy translator )

so that translation is for to give to the hospital for they make the sutibat of the kid, which the mother is not thai

Anyway the Mattress City is a good exemple, so it sound totally the same ! as Litres

Not a problem then because he doesn't need to guess, his job has been done for him.
