BOT: Individuals with facial makeover should apply for new ID cards

The Bank of Thailand has advised commercial banks to ask their customers who have facial plastic surgery or have facial makeover to apply for new ID cards or to show a doctor’s certificate that they have facial makeover to ensure that they are the same persons as shown in the ID cards.

 

Yongsak Seanglaw, senior director of the Bank of Thailand’s Banking Supervision Department, said on Tuesday (Jan 16) that the central bank had instructed all commercial banks to tighten their respective internal examination of new bank accounts to ensure that the bank accounts were not opened for the other people or criminal gangs.

 

He warned that, in the future, banks should also be held accountable for negligence if it was discovered that ID cards of the other individuals were used to open bank accounts.
