rooster59 Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 Police stop “We Walk for Friendship” long march to Khon Kaen A planned 450-kilometre long march from Thammasat University Rangsit Campus in Pathum Thani to Khon Kaen province to call for rights to natural resources management and democracy organised by the People Go Network was halted by police late Saturday morning (Jan 20). The People Go Network (PGN), an umbrella organisation of social activists and academics working on health, natural resources, food security, and civil rights issues, was scheduled to launch the “We Walk for Friendship” long march from Thammasat University (TU) this morning. However, they were stopped by riot control and Klong Luang police who set up barricades to prevent the group from moving out of the campus. Topdoc Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 Don't stop them, let them walk. It is good for you if you can listen to the people.
darksidedog Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 (edited) Walking for Democracy would have been a better heading. Sadly, being stopped dead in its tracks! This time, for now, anyway. Wont be surprised to see other incidents, cos I think many of your average Thais are none too impressed with the current helmsman-ship and some are starting to take voice.. Nice to see. Quite ironic though that a walk that would not have generated much news, now causes embarrassment , because of the heavy handed way it was stopped, and which in itself, will piss quite a few more people off. Some members get offended by the idea of free expression. They think the rich and powerful have the downtrodden’s best interests at heart. When others members ask, “how?”, they talk about the injustices in other countries. Edited January 20, 2018 by rkidlad
Siripon Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 They have started walking in groups of 4 to not break the rule of an assembly of 5 people.
coulson Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 Why didn't they stop Toon? He gathered more than 4 people, for a politically motivated task (funding government hospitals)
Chris Lawrence Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 The buffalo has horns. There are more police in the above photo than protestors?

"Just as well" because, in a radically changed environment (in terms of the ability of anyone to exercise restraint upon the Junta), they are quite likely to give dissidents the "Tiananmen Treatment", in the style of those from whom they derive their concept of societal organisation. Recent revelations concerning that event: At least 10,000 people died in Tiananmen Square massacre, secret ... "The ambassador said his account of the massacre of the night of 3-4 June was based on information from a source who had spoken to a “good friend” in China’s State Council, effectively its ruling cabinet. The State Council member, Sir Alan said, “has previously proved reliable and was careful to separate fact from speculation and rumour”. Edited January 21, 2018 by Enoon

thaiguzzi Posted January 21, 2018 Posted January 21, 2018 That is such a cringeworthy photo. Feel sorry for Toon "having" to be in that room with that man.
TKDfella Posted January 21, 2018 Posted January 21, 2018 A group of unarmed civilians facing a bigger group of armed police...yeah sounds about right doesn't it.
