webfact Posted January 25, 2018 Share Posted January 25, 2018 Woman, 70, killed in Mahasarakham shophouse fire By The Nation A woman, 70, who tried to escape a fire, was trapped behind an iron-grill door of her shophouse and died in Mahasarakham province on Wednesday night. The fire in the downtown area of Phayakkhaphum Phisai district began at 9.30pm and spread to eight other shophouses. Ten fire engines were rushed to the scene and they took about two hours to control the blaze after it swept through five shophouses and partially damaged four others. Police said the fire started at the shophouse of Somboon Momroi-et, who was killed when she tried to escape the fire from the second floor balcony but could not open the iron-grill door. Police have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
