Pheu Thail MPs petition anti-graft body to drop probe

By The Nation

Former Pheu Thai MPs, including Vorachai Hema, on Thursday filed a petition asking the National Anti Corruption Commission to drop its probe against 40 MPs for supporting the enactment of an amnesty bill in 2013.

Vorachai said the issue was not under the NACC’s authority. The anti-graft body’s pursuit of the case amounts to an attempt to override the higher authority of the legislative body that the MPs were elected to sit in, he said.

Vorachai said the bill the MPs had pushed for did not yield any benefits to anyone, contrary to people’s fears.

The amnesty bill was among several bills pushed in late 2013 before the military coup. Opponents alleged that the proposed legislation was intended to benefit certain figures including self-exiled former PM Thaksin Shinawatra.

One of the 40 MPs has filed a lawsuit demanding compensation from the NACC.

The court will hear the first testimony on the case in February.

"Vorachai said the bill the MPs had pushed for did not yield any benefits to anyone, contrary to people’s fears."

Then what was the point of the bill?

And, is he referring to the one where amendments were illegally made by the government after the bill readings?

All they need to do is show that this bill was meant for Thaksin (should be clear as his name was added illegally). Then find out if Thaksin pays members a salary.. if so.. then its an open and shut case of corruption. If you let your friends / people close to you .. or your boss benefit from stuff like this its a conflict of interest and if money changes hands corruption.

Interesting could wipe out a lot of these guys.. would make them think twice to do such a thing again.

I had not minded the amnesty for the foot soldiers (red and yellow) but the bosses really should not be included.

Just to be clear all the red members on here agree that the NACC investigating Prawit is a conflict of interest (when the top man of the NACC was in the investigation because he was close to Prawit). I don't see how this is much different... Thaksin was the boss of these guys.. and its corruption if money changes hands.

Yea.. unbelievable..  that they did not see a conflict of interest..plus the way his name was added after the reading... plus sending people home before voting. It was clear for everyone it was made for Thaksin alone.. now if they can only prove that money changed hands then its the end for these guys.. though a case for conflict of interest is easier to make.
