I have been in Pattaya now a few days and am ready to go home !!

I have been in such a panic and anxiety

I have lost my glasses and can't see properly without them , I have had to lodge complaint with the hotel I am staying at .

I took my glasses in my pocket to the hotel swimming pool , when I got there they were missing, it seems I may have lost them on the way waking there or the way back to my room.

I told these silly people via the room phone I had lost my glasses where they proceed to bring to my room two drinking glasses !!.

I have been asking the hotel reception and management who I must say haven't been helpful but that's another story I will go I to later when my local member of Parliament names them in Parliament

My question is , I have absolutely no idea on how to get a new pair here in Pattaya

Are eye sight tests free ?

How long does it take to get the new spectacles ?

I don't know where to start

My local MP of Parliament in Australia has had his secretary send me a optometrist list , but who knows where to start ?

Like SF recommended, you can find an optometrist in every city, many of them, and get a pairs of glasses fast, especially if they have your prescription. I just got my daughter glasses a little bit ago. They didn't have her exact prescription, so they were sent in the same week to my house. The eye test is included in the glasses price.

Growing up, when my Mom was getting ready to go somewhere and she could not find her pockebook or she could not find her car keys, she would offer a 25 cent reward to any of us kids who could find her lost item. I think our weekly allowance was only 50 cents so this was big money and we all hopped to it, with the lost item soon found. I think you need to march yourself down to the pool and loudly announce, "25 cents to whoever finds my lost glasses!!!"

I offered the Managerof this big hotel 100 baht and he told me rudely I must stop continually asking his staff where my glasses are !

May I ask please if someone knows a optometrist, would perhaps this Central Festival mall be ok for this .?

No one seems to be helpful. Go to central and ask around the different shops. Top Chareon can give you an exam in about 15-20 minutes. They send the glasses to bkk to be made and it usually takes a week. Offer to pay for rush. If they can’t do it maybe one of the other shops can rush. I’ve had glasses made in about 4 days. Hopefully you have the time.

Then you misplace your glasses, which you can't find--because you need your glasses to see.

So you go back and buy another pair.

To answer your earlier question- eye tests are mostly free and will probably not follow the form you are used to.

If you have to have them made special, then expect at least 3-4 days or more.

I wonder if the optometrist in Australia has my prescription, any rate it's weekend so they wouldn't get back to me until Monday afternoon or Tuesday.

I may have to just get an eye test and order more , obviously no health fund discount I don't believe

I may have to visit the big shopping centre here ,I really don't like crowds !!

Are you sure you are in Pattaya? There are eye glass shops everywhere. Google says there are over 100. Surely you can manage to stumble upon one, even without your glasses. Go in the first one you find and see what they can do for you.

Eye glass shops everywhere, exam is free, and just buy the cheapest frame, as the lenses are cheap, it's the frame that makes the cost rise.

I buy my glasses at Soi Buakaow Market, the guy has a fairly large range. His stall is right where the baht buses stop. I buy 4 or 5 pairs at a time, they're all 50 baht even the ones with the "gold" rims,

I had to take the video, email it to myself, open the email on my PC, save it, then upload it as an "edit" the first time as the "attach file" bar at the bottom doesn't appear unless I enter the Edit mode in Reply. Then it was too big.
So I did it again.

Anyway, how anyone that apparently sees that poorly that they can not wear their glasses and not notice and then blame "silly people" that somehow losing his glasses is the hotel staff's fault is beyond me.
And what else is beyond me is how anyone even with dodgy eyesight can walk around anywhere in Thailand without walking past a Top Charoen within the first ten minutes.

I live in a smallish village between two decent-sized towns: Nong Phai district pop ~100k (12km north) and Bueng Sam Phan districi pop ~70k (16km south) in Phetchabun and they both have a Top Charoen.
When I was in Pattaya (pop ~750k - 1m) in..February(?) I walked past probably three between the Srinn Hotel in Pattaya Klang and The Robin Hood Tavern in Second Road.
