The Japanese police formally thanked the Thai authorities yesterday after the  arrest of a 72 year old heavily tattooed member of the Yakusa Gumi last month.

Wanted criminal Shigeharu Shirai had been hiding in Thailand for 13 years and was arrested in Lopburi.

Shirai is due to be deported today, Thursday, to face charges in Japan.

Yesterday, Hirosuku Takaoke from the Japanese national police met with deputy chief Wirachai Songmetta to express the gratitude of the Japanese.

Additionally, INN reported that a 40,000 name list of Yakusa members has now been handed over to the Thai authorities to help prevent Japanese nationals engaging in crime such as drugs and human trafficking in Thailand.

The list includes ID numbers, photos and other information that the Thais say will be a great help in their investigations.
