Influential Thai news media Daily News suggested that the authorities' plan to declare a deadly road in the south of Thailand as a "Safety Zone" was just paying lip service to the problem.

In a news and feature article Daily News said that the road in question was route 4009 Surat to Nasarn where there have been 501 accidents resulting in 6 deaths and 276 injuries in the last three years.

New signage promoted by the highways department sub-committee limits speeds of cars and bikes to 60 kmph while vans and buses should go only 45 kmph.

Daily News suggested in their headline that the words "Safety Zone" have no meaning if motorists don't take their own personal safety and that of others seriously.

The media is carrying out a high profile campaign to end the carnage on Thailand's roads and has been critical of measures taken by the authorities to tackle the problem.

Are the numbers in the circles the expected deaths per day or the Death Race points system ?

No Richard, it is the required IQ to operate the vehicle in the circle.....

We all know how law abiding Thai nationals are.
Very good decision with the new signboards.

If backed up by law enforcement......:cheesy:......then it would help.

Taking positive action is not "Thainess' is it, bloody good job! :shock1:
