Irishman missing for a week in Thailand 'very weak and very shook' - but on road to recovery

The sister of a man who was missing for a week in Bangkok said he is "very weak" and "very shook" but they are hopeful for a speedy recovery.

 

Anthony O'Sullivan, from Mitchelstown, Cork, was discovered in a local hospital following an intensive search, co-ordinated by his brother Martin Patrick who had travelled to the Thai capital.

 

An experienced traveller,Anthony (54) had disappeared from his hotel room on January 18. He was subsequently found lying on a city street and rushed to hospital where he lay in a coma until last week. He was expected to travel home this week, the Corkman reports.

Maybe Graham Briar can contribute some of his leftover funds, after paying for his alleged bypass operation ?

At last! A happy ending. 

But even with a happy ending, we still get the GoFundMe appeal. 

They can all go fund themselves, in my opinion.  And I did not mean to say "fund" .  You come out here, you take care of yourself. Can't afford the holiday AND the appropriate insurance: DON' T COME, or at least do not try and make other people feel sorry for your stupid mistakes.

By comparison, a comprehensive travel insurance policy with substantial coverage amounts for pretty much every mishap including major surgery and lengthy hospital stays would have cost him in the area of a mere US$150 for 4 weeks abroad, probably only a sixth of what his air ticket alone came to. It's even cheaper for a shorter trip.

when will people grow up and start funding their own lives, i get sick of these people that keep asking people to help them, its like there children still. grow up take responsibility for your selves.

It would take you 4 weeks to read the exclusions, and take a miracle for most blokes holidaying in Thailand to avoid them all.

Go fund yourself.

There is a time when you have to take some chances in life, if someone has a pre existing medical condition, does that mean they should not go out of their country for a holiday abroad because capitalist insurance companies want to charge extortionate rates for travel insurance rates or even refuse to insure them at all.

 

If a person lives in the UK and has worked and paid taxes all his life and is watching his hard earned money go towards paying for people from abroad who need medical treatment wants to go on holiday abroad, can he/she be blamed for taking a chance and going on holiday abroad not do so because of the difficulty of having to pay extortionate rates, or get refused medical insurance because of a pre existing condition?

Pathetic people always reaching for other’s wallets. Tired of this internet begging, ( no face is visible) let us have them sit outside a hospital and solicit for money, only then will I consider a contribution!

even he is my country fellow I would not give any money. If he is a well experienced traveler.....why he doesn't have any insurance. And if you can't afford any insurance.....STAY HOME and watch TV

agree with you 100% BUT  dont expect others to pick up the tab when it goes pear shaped. the people you refer to maybe should have savings for that rainy day.

Why do I have to pay for “travel insurance” ? Isn’t it redundant?

Its cheaper to pay the hospital bill for some people than for overpriced insurance because of your age. Even without any medical preconditions. Insurance companies want ALL PREMIUMS as profit never having to pay anything out. Insurance is probably cheaper in Thailand if you live here permanently.
