Three men were arrested on Monday night after they allegedly tried to smuggle 250 kilograms of crystal meth aboard a train to Songkhla.

Railway police discovered the drug hidden in five travel bags and four backpacks on the Bangkok-Sungai Kolok train at Bang Pong railway station in Ratchaburi on Monday night.

Police found the bags were left unattended when they conducted a routine check of the train.

Police saw four men with the bags when they checked security camera footage.

The railway police sought help from Bang Pong police and Bang Pong district chief Prayong Chanthaten to search for the four suspects.

Three of the suspects were found at the Bang Pong Mansion apartments at 12.20am on Tuesday. They were identified as Chakpatchara Pumpuang, 28, Wisarut Trachai, 23, and Polthawat Samala, 21.

They said their friend, Suriyan Boonthiam, 32, fled alone.

The three said they were hired by a man, known as Dam, for Bt100,000 to smuggle the drug on a bus from Nakhon Phanom and they took a taxi to Hua Lampong railway station.
