[listen to the audio clip]

Here is the transcription:

Man 1: “If the incident ends without anything, XXXX [a person’s name] can ask me for everything. I’m sincere. I will have my men send [them] to you. I once carried over 100 sandals, combat boots and uniforms, including 30 walkie-talkies for soldiers along border.”

Man 2: “You need to open up if we are going to make a deal together.”

Man 1: “I come to visit the wildlife sanctuary.”

Man 3: “[You] should not make a mistake by bringing guns with you here.”

Man 1: “Will you confiscate the guns? I don’t think so. They are registered. Phu Yai [senior figure] will clear it.”

Man 2: “The laws have loopholes.”

Man 3: “The guns are not for defence but [used] to shoot wild animals.”

Well I hope it looks smarter than the short trousers the ITD boss is wearing in the photo.

Man 1 is allegedly Premchai

Man 2 is allegedly a fellow poacher

Man 3 is allegedly a ranger.

Have I got this right?

this says so much about thailand;

a little bit of 'do you know who i am (and my friends)'

a little bit of 'laws that don't apply, at least here and now'

and a little bit of : 'nevermind if they are protected animals (doesnt apply to me)'

Man#2 doing all the legwork for man#1

It's very hard to decipher who the real #1MAN actually is

‘Incriminating’ audio clip authentic, says official

By The Nation

An audio clip recorded during the arrest of construction tycoon Premchai Karnasuta, which suggested an attempt to bribe an arresting official, was said to be authentic yesterday.

Chaiwat Limlikhit-aksorn, chief of Phaya Sua, the National Parks Department’s forest crime suppression taskforce, which supervised the investigation that led to the arrest, said yesterday that the conversation had been recorded by an arresting official.

The recording was being transcribed, he said.

In the clip released by ThaiPBS public television on Tuesday night, a man appeared to be offering another man benefits in exchange for not prosecuting him. The names have been withheld pending the official transcription.

Man 1: “If the incident ends without anything, XXXX [a person’s name] can ask me for everything. You are sincere. I will have my men send [them] to you. I once carried over 100 sandals, combat boots and uniforms, including 30 walkie-talkies, for Myanmar soldiers along the border.”

Man 2: “You need to open up if we are going to make a deal together.”

Man 1: “I came to visit the wildlife sanctuary.”

Chaiwat added that the conversation could be used as evidence in the case if the information was clear.

Apart from the audio clip, Chaiwat said he was confident the documentation of the arrest had been done prudently and could help prosecute wrongdoers.

I predict a bit of wealth redistribution in his future.

It's a very simple misunderstanding.

It is a "game reserve", he naturally, given his status, assumed that the "game" was reserved for him.

I'm sure it can be sorted out at an appropriate level.

And the crusading forest rangers? An appointment guarding a pond in Hat Yai awaits...

Watches? Did you deliver any watches?

What an indictment of the Thai justice system!  Bribery is the first recourse.

You've obviously been here more than five minutes - I mean that as a genuine comment. We all know how the system is bought works.

Very clear evidence mounting up. This can mean only one thing - a larger amount of brown envelopes will be required to escape real punishment.

In a week or so we will learn that the rifles at the campsite aren't his and somebody who died loaned him the ones at his crib and the elephant tusks.

In Thailand ?  Who knows ? Think it has more to do with stirring public sediment, so that the investigation does go the same way as the one with a policeman being dragged behind an alleged Ferrari driven by an alleged young hi-so, an heir to a internationally respected brand of poison.

Quite likely. What's really sad, apart from slaughtering protected animals for fun, is that those brave souls who try and uphold and enforce the laws will likely suffer as a consequence. Those who chose to break and ignore them, if wealthy and connected enough, won't really be affected, other than some payments.
