Hi does anyone have experience of applying for the above at Banglamung amphur and can provide a list of what is required?I've heard it can be a long frustrating and expensive process.

It depends a lot on your landlord and how willing they are to help you. The house owner has to cooperate and have to show up with you at the amphur with their ID and house book. You will need your passport and valid permission to stay. Once you are registered in the yellow house book, you can normally apply for the pink ID card.

You can be asked for marriage certificate if you are registered married in Thailand.

I forgot that some amphur require passports to be officially translated and legalized for your name as well, while some just ask for your Thai name in writing. I did mine on location while applying, but that’s years ago now, and they even demanded a bribe to do it in one day.

Thanks.It's the translating and legalising I particularly wanted to know about re Banglamung.

On a rented property, I would not bother.

When you move, the yellow book stays with the property.

Way to much sodding about to get it in pattaya.

You won't need to apply separately for the pink ID it comes automatically with the yellow book , nowadays my local amphur ( not banglamung) will not issue them unless one is married to a Thai Most require evidence of parents names I used copies of the documents I had translated from when I got married here even though they were years old they were still accepted Other than translation costs the process should be free although I think they charged me 20bt for a plastic wallet for the card

I have yet to find anybody with any interest in me having the yellow book or the card quite disappointing so far , but I reckon they may well become more significant in the future , should that happen I imagine they will become more difficult to obtain,

Make sure you have copies of your passport, driving licences, etc. We always have extra copies made, and if we legalise a paper, we also make sure to add a few extra copies that can come in handy later.

There is no general requirement to be married to get a yellow house book. The official DOPA requirements for adding a foreigner to the house registration do not list marriage as a condition

Does Banglamung need notarised and translated to Thai copies of your passport as this involves a trip to Bangkok?

if ur renting property, why would u want one?
I cant see any landlord allowing it

and there is not much sense in having one except for opening bank accounts, getting driving license and not having to get a cor

You should call to Banglamung Amphur or go to visit them and ask exactly what documents they want.

As all imigration offices every amphur will also have their own rules.

More info.

While it's true that being in a yellow book for a rented property has limitations, if you happen to find yourself in a district that allows easy yellow book registration, it may still be beneficial.

The biggest part of the process is registering YOU in the system as a foreigner and less so about the address. That means once you move, the process of getting a new yellow book will be much simpler even if the amphur is an unfriendly one. They should not require a bunch of crazy stuff because you are already registered with the government, it's just adding you to the new property address at that point (with support of the owner of the property).

I don't think it is a general requirement just a local one, the previous head guy vowed that no "farang" would ever be issued with a yellow book as long as he was running the show so at least it was an improvement .

The requirements here were also that any foreign language documents needed to be translated into Thai and the translation approved, by "a competent authority" no mention of passport verification but as I said I already had a verified copy of my passport from when i got married and a MFA approved translation too. which they accepted, despite being years old

A document stating the names of parents ( I could initially only think of a birth certificate) which could be tricky, especially if it needs verifying as the UK embassy won't do it, it has to be done back in the UK. Fortunately I had stated their names on my "affidavit of freedom to marry" which had been translated and verified by the MFA and they accepted that without even raising an eyebrow, The book is free and I think they charged 20bt for the card wallet thing. The pooyai ban cost me 500bt and I had to buy lunch for the mother in law who acted as witness.

Had I needed to go to bangkok i would have abandoned my application , it wasn't that important, I was just curious, this was a good few years ago and I haven't looked at it since, and disappointingly , nobody has ever asked me to produce it

You make a very good point. My wife was keen to get me a yellow book for her home in Surin. But to do so they wanted me in the system. She had a friend in Banglamung whose husband had a yellow book for their home. Somehow they got me added to that book, at a cost of 1 basket of that Brand chicken stuff to the guy in the Banglamung office. Thereafter it was only weeks before I got my book from Surin. I never went to the Surin office, never signed anything but 20 years later still have the book.

I got my yellow book in Banglamung.

Day 1 I went to the Amphur to ask what I needed.

I was guessing that the new address would be added to my previous yellow book as there many blank pages.

Maybe you should read my post again. Obviously I didn't follow ANY of the instructions they had told me the first day

You should take into account, in Thailand every one wearing an official uniform makes up his own rules and regulations on the spot, simply because he doesn't know the rules.

So when you go there it just a matter of he who makes the most impression on the other party that dictates the rules.

I'm pretty good at that :-)

My amphur required my birth certificate and translation. No certification or verification from consulate needed.

Yes I've read the same and even in this thread posts have indicated process depends on location.

Not about to sidetrack thread, however out of interest why do you want yellow book and Thai pink card?

Many rubbish threads with back forth about usefulness vs not worth the trouble.

I like many expats live in Thailand for MANY years without one.

In my case, I have my yellow book for 14 years, and it has saved me countless trips to immigration, and the associating fees, for a certificate of residence.

I also got a postpaid sim from True, which otherwise would not have been possible. At that time you need a work permit, and I had to use me "impression" skills to get the yellow book accepted.
There are other instances where i wouldn't have succeeded without a yellow book or pink card, like for example opening bank accounts at certain banks.

So in short, the book cost me a few baht (don't recall how much) and 30 minutes of my time, but it has paid back for it hundreds of times

I thought it might be a back up to my non- o visa if Wise ask me to verify my residence in Thailand in the upcoming changes.Hopefully I won't need it as it seems to be a lottery how you get it and I haven't the confidence to blag like some

I've been here over your 14 years and have required 3 COR.

All done when I had other business with immigration.

All for TDL renewal.

Opened bank account in recent times with my Non Immigrant status and lease.

Will stop there.

Well everyone's mileage varies. I would have need already 3 CoR's only this year, and we're only August.

And I said certain banks. Try to open an account with GSB without a yellow book or COR.
