The UK has gone through tough patches. Life was very harsh and grim over the centuries. The plague wiped out 1/2 the country and destroyed the economy, multiple civil wars laid waste to the country, the environmental crisis of Europe in 1314-1316 that saw the country plunged into successive droughts that resulted in a continental famine, WWI, the Great Depression, WWII , the urban decay of the 1970's et al are periods that were far worse and that did far greater damage to the UK. And despite those horrible times, the country progressed and improved itself. It will do so again.
