Suthep Thaugsuban greets Buddha Issara on Wednesday at the court

BANGKOK — An activist monk who helped lead street protests that paved way for the 2014 military coup was indicted on a charge of insurrection along with other activists Wednesday.

Buddha Issara and 13 others were accused of inciting unlawful rebellion against the government at the time with their protest campaign, which saw several state agencies occupied by protesters. The monk, whose real name is Suwit Thongprasert, denied the charges.

Who is this Buddha Issara? It seems like he is the most powerful monk in Thailand. Anyone know why all the elite figures kneel to this guy?

It's all in his name,  Buddha Issara", doesn't it mean "free or independent Buddha"

Hopefully the next headline will read" Buddha Issara reunites with Suthep in jail".

correction

Aren't we the monk, who meddles in politics, and the democrat, who appreciates democracy only in the case of certain election outcomes?

Because he helps safeguard their position. A bit of religious icing on the rotten cake.

Prosecutor indicts Phra Buddha Isara and 16 PDRC members with treason and terrorism charges

By Thai PBS

Activist monk Phra Buddha Isara and 16 members of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) were on Wednesday (March 14) indicated by the special public prosecutor with eight criminal charges, including treason and terrorism for their role in the “Bangkok Shutdown” anti-government protest in 2013.

Earlier on Jan 24, nine PDRC core leaders, headed by Suthep Thaugsuban were indicted with similar charges by the special public prosecutor.

After the indictment of the 17 PDRC members, Phra Buddha Isara said that he would seek justice from the court to spare those who were not directly involved as charged by not requiring them to attend court hearings because several of them have been indicted in several other cases.

About bloody time!

However, there is no chance that they will be convicted because they are members of the 'Yellows and Greens', and the 'Yellows and Greens' will cheat.

'Yellows and Greens' always cheat their responsibilities.

'Yellows and Greens' are cheating cheaters who cheat.

Period.

And you think the Reds, browns, blacks or any other color are any different?

Yes they are, they have a 100% bigger chance to be convicted.

This whole sage is one big farce.

No they don't. Reds and Yellows have been convicted since the Junta.

How many Reds were convicted or even prosecuted under PTP's misrule?

The fact is there all at it and the rules of the game dictate only minions really get punished. Billionaire hisos from the right families are allowed to simply relocate!

It may be a farce but those are the top are all becoming very very wealthy by playing it. Whatever gang they happen to be in. And of course can change sides like playing musical chairs.
