Checkpoints impede arrival of fisherman for Bangkok protests

Authorities have impeded fishermen trying to travel to Bangkok for a big protest at the Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry on Wednesday afternoon.

Temporary checkpoints have been set up along routes to Bangkok. Because the buses and vans carrying fishermen have had to stop at these checkpoints, many people could not make it to Bangkok in time for the protest that was initially scheduled to take place in front of the ministry at 2pm.

National Fisheries Association Thailand’s president Mongkhon Sukcharoenkhana said he planned to wait until all fishermen who planned to join the protest arrived before starting any negotiations with the government.

Mongkhon said a huge number of fishermen were upset that the Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry has signed an agreement on artisanal, or small-scale, fisheries. The protesters suspect the agreement will hurt commercial fishing and cause rifts among fishermen.

Freedom of speech, the right of assembly, the right to peacefully protest.

None of the above are seen in the actions of the government, which is committed to Human Rights as a national agenda.

That is only a Pinocchio commitment. Doesn't count!

No, with all respect - you are wrong, my friend: Thailand's junta is actively committed to human rights, democracy, freedom of expression, pluralism of viewpoints, tolerance and ethical governance, indeed is a hub of all these wonderful things. Our dearest Leader has told us so numerous times. I know that, on further reflection, you - and I - would never doubt his honourable word, would we?!

Thank you for guiding me back to the roadmap to happiness.

My post was made in haste, without forethought. Can you please forgive me and put it down to " youthfull exuberance".

I shall endeavour to ensure that I will not err again.

And hopefully in these lovely checkpoints, if lucky, a few shirtless farangs, with no seatbelts in their cars could be apprehended or maybe a few others riding their bikes with no helmets could also be rapidly pulled over....some good tea money in perspective !! A win-win situation :welcomeani:

Why is no-one in the OP photograph wearing fisherman's trousers?

Fake news perhaps?

Drunken drivers were cleverly waved through so that soldiers could stay focused on the real threats to national security.
