Visa extension with soon-to-expire passport

Late October of 2018 I will need to get another 12-month extension on my retirement visa.  My passport expires early October 2019.  Will I be able to get the extension?

 

If not, can I apply for an 11-month extension?  That would save me about a year on the passport.

Yes, but the extension will not be for a full year and only until on or just before your passport expires.

You can do the extension application but it will only be valid to the date your passport expires.
