Parties called for poll talks

Parties called for poll talks

By THE NATION

EXISTING POLITICAL parties will be invited to discuss party administrative work following the junta Order No 53/60, which had amended the political party law to adjust administrative work periods and procedures for both new and old par ties.

Election Commission president Supachai Somcharoen yesterday met with Deputy PM Wissanu Krea-ngam to discuss about the work procedures for old parties.

He said the parties would be invited to discuss with the EC on March 28 to see what they can or cannot do following the order.

The ban on political activities, however, was not discussed yesterday, he added.

The order instructs old parties to proceed with their administrative work from April 1.

This meeting is about party administrative work - what business is it for the government, especially since the "government" may itself be participating in the elections either directly with its own party or with a surrogate party/parties?

How else can they learn how it's done w/o being taught/told by existing parties?

Isn't a gathering of more than 5 people to discuss politics still illegal?

'To discuss what the parties can and cannot do, following the order':

Cannot do:

1. Talk about politics

2. Say anything that might 'confuse' the public

3. Criticise the junta

4. Discuss democracy

5. Discuss freedom of speech

6. Discuss the great Un-Discussable

7. Put forward any policies that conflict with the directives and 20-year plan of the junta

Can do (to their hearts' content):

1. Talk about politics if it involves praising Prayut, Prawit and extolling the junta

2. Speak any confusing nonsense, provided it is upholding the junta status quo

3. Write songs and peons of praise about the junta

4. Discuss Thai-niyom democracy (not that nasty 'foreign' kind)

5. Discuss how 'freedom of speech' is a horrid foreign invention, against Thai-niyom

6. Praise to the skies the great Un-Discussable

7. Put forward, with enthusiastic cheers and acclamation, any policies that mirror and support junta hegemony and Thai-niyom.

All clear now, children?!

No if yours is a pro Prayut political party. The New Alternative Party had their party meeting after the junta grant them permission. Others not granted.
